Workstand Suggestions?

Gonna start doing my own wrenching on my ride. I hear the Park consumer stand is a little too wobbly. Any suggestions on what kind of workstand to get?

I have a single arm park with the heavy base. I don’t know what model (same kind used it most bike shops but with only 1 arm and tool tray, it comes in handy not wobbly at all but heavy and you have to have some room to store it.

I have a Park Tools Deluxe Single Arm Repair Stand

This thing rocks. It’s the same stand that you see in most bike shops. It will be the last bike repair stand that you will ever buy…period.

It’s pretty heavy, but do you really want to hang your bike off some flimsy stand while you’re torqueing down a bolt?

It’s also expensive. I’m a big believer in you get what you pay for. This thing is worth every cent that I paid for it.

You really can’t go wrong with Park Tools.

VeloNews did a review of consumer workstands in the June 2nd issue. They picked the Ultimate Pro Workstand as the absolute best. It runs $229.00, which is pretty steep, but they say it has the benifits of portability, stability, clamping force and adjustability. The web address listed is: www.ussbike.com. I have a birthday coming up on June 13th, perhaps I’ll leave the review out for my wife to read.

I think that somewhere you need to make a decission on portability. I never desired to take my stand anywhere, so I got the biggest, bad-est thing that I could find. I think that if portability is an issue than you are right, there are far better stands out there than the Park Tools Deluxe Single Arm Repair Stand.

I did find this little metal stand that cradles the BB and the DT, lifting the rear wheel off the ground. It sort of acts as a double kickstand, and is very small. I keep it in the 4Runner and set my bike in it when I get ready for a ride. It allows you to spin the cranks and go through the gears quite nicely. I think that it’s made by Pyramid. $10.

I always take my stand with me on any out of town trip, along with enough tools and parts to choke a subcompact.

I have the single arm Park stand whose legs will fold together for transport. I think they call it the PS-4. It works great. I wouldn’t want a heavier one.

I would definitely buy this item on eBay. You will save significant bucks.

I second this recomendation… My friend had this stand, the tripod design is increbibly stable and happens to have the additional benefit of being portable… plus their clamping mechanism is super solid…

But the key being it is very very stable

I have the Park Tools PRS-5 and love it. I hear the Ultimate stand is very good, but I haven’t worked on it.

If you want a stand that goes easily with you to races, the PRS-5 is really nice. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either. I’m a Park Tool fan myself and pretty much stick with all their stuff.

It’s expensive, but worth it!

I am a shop mechanic and I have one. There is no stand that compares in quality, adjustability, stability, and ease of use. The clamp has no equal…the best on the market. The stand also folds up and comes with a nylon carry/storage bag. There are optional attachments…truing stand and tool box keeps tools right where you need them.

I have the ultimate pro workstand and it is the best thing i’ve used (compared to parks, and even workstands in the shop). Best part is that it is on sale right now at supergo.com for $144 until 6/16… quite a steal in my opinion.
