I just read the “men today” thread and it got me thinking about other stuff. I mean, what if the guys organized “men only” triathlons and other sporting events in response to all of the women’s only events that are out there–I mean, women want to be equal and want to be respected, but then they create women’s only events which ALIENATE the guys and basically say “Hey, I’m a woman and I’m different, therefore I need to have my own event”. Then I think some women would raise hell if there was a men’s only event and they couldn’t compete.
I bet that men would opt for the coed events anyway.
yeah, what she said!
I hate racism. I sexism. I hate age discrimination and all that other stuff too.
I love to race. I’ll race, against women, Blacks, Jews, Arabs, cripples, old people, young people, skinny people or fatso’s…whatever! Hell, I’ll even race against middle aged white men! (they’re apparently a minority now too)
I’ll lose to most of them, based on past experience, but I don’t care. I just love racing.
Time for everyone to start seeing how much we have in common, not what differences we have! Is triathlon so big that we can start carving up the pie into tiny pieces? I don’t think so. Then again, I don’t think the human race is big enough to start carving into little pieces either.
I did a women’s only running race back in 99, hated it too much estrogrn in the air. Never again will I do any women’s-only event.

women want to be equal and want to be respected
I can think of very few situations where people use the term “equal” without meaning “preferential”.
That’s a frequent type of response I read when women have female bosses or administrators. Males do very well with female bosses (professionally) … women do not. IMO, it’s one of the more telling of peculiar behaviors in society.
Particularly when you have studied and worked in male dominated fields (physics, defense).
My old boss used to say I was a man trapped in a woman’s body.
It always seemed to me to be a result of many females’ lack of ability to seperate the impersonal situation from personal emotion. In other words, your (female) boss telling you (female) that you need to improve your performance is often interpreted to be a personal attack … and is resented. Whereas the exact same words spoken by a man would be taken as a suggestion to improve performance.
Strange. Very strange. Groups of people often complain about other groups of people that impede their own success, when in actuality it is members of the same group that often do that.
Just so I am not hijacking this thread … I would do “male only” events. Why wouldn’t I? Did I really train that many hours and pay the registration fee to come out and “check out the ladies”? At some point, wouldn’t the opposite sex be somewhat of a distraction?
If triathlon was a “men’s only” event I’d be looking for another hobby.
My wife runs a women’s only tri every year as an excuse to visit some old friends several hours away. She enjoys the event but couldn’t conceive of doing women’s events exclusively.
I wouldn’t even consider joining an all-women’s tri.
No eye candy on the course.
They are a pretty big thing here in NZ. I think the aim is to get a woman’s attention drawn to the sport in the first place. Ie it is marketing to a certain extent.
I suppose. But again, like I said, no eye candy.
One of the many pleasures of racing is checking out the guy in front of you, then passing him.
Can’t say that happens to me much
Well it does, but only when I am dying.
Can’t say that happens to me much ;)<<
What, the checking you out???
Sorry, but that was just laying waiting to be hit out of the park.
clm
Well that too.
I wouldn’t know anyway. I’m blind to that kinda thing.
