Women's heart rate monitor--suggestions?

I just bought a Polar 720 and am loving it so far. My wife likes it too, but it is so huge on her wrist that it’s just not practical for her. Can anybody suggest an HRM comparable to the 720 but in a smaller package suitable for the slender wrist of my wife? Thank you!

bump…anybody? Thanks…

I couldn’t find any that seemed like smaller models on line, plus it’s a little hard to tell without actually seeing it. I have a Polar S120 and it’s a chunk on my wrist, but what to do. I guess if I were ready to replace it, I’d go to a store that carried a few and try to find the smallest one that has the features I need. I’d suggest the same for your wife.

Thanks, Jacquie. We have looked in a few stores and couldn’t find anything, nor could the salespeople offer any alternatives. Maybe it’s just impossible to cram all of the features of the 720 into a smaller package. I think the 120 might be a bit smaller, but I’m not positive. Anyway, we were also just wondering if there were other women who had been frustrated by this situation!

Does anybody know how big the Timex HRM/GPS watch is compared to the 720? And how about the CicloSport HAC4? We couldn’t find those in stores, and haven’t seen any pictures of them being worn…

Actually, my husband has the Timex Speed and Distance thing, and it’s at least as big as my 120, if not bigger, plus there’s the GPS part that gets strapped on to an arm or something. I don’t know about the other one you mentioned. I used to have a Polar that had a relatively large watch but it was fairly flat, so it seemed less bulky, but they’ve discontinued it and I can’t even remember the model. I guess you’re right, they haven’t figured out a way to get the features into a package that fits narrower wrists.

Thanks for the info. on the Timex. I suppose the version with the HRM will be even bigger, if anything! Does your husband find the GPS to be accurate? Is the satellite signal reception reliable? I also have an older Polar, the ProTrainer NV, that sounds like yours–pretty large face, but much thinner. My wife is using that for now until we can find something else. Natrin

Since Polar (timex, Suunto, etc.) seems to think that women aren’t in the demographic that they should focus on with their top-end equipment, only the lower end (Polar M or A series) watches come in dimensions that are reasonable for a small-framed person. I’ve not seen the Ciclosport, but have no reason the expect that it’s grossly different from the others.

Since male triathletes, runners and to some extent cyclists are typically small-framed I’m not sure who Polar is marketing to, football players?

Exactly! Their only excuse can be that they’ve made it as small as they can, given all the features it has. Oh well… Natrin

Yes, he did, right up until the time that it quit working. His friends who have it have not had any problems so we assume it was just something wrong with his. He just sent it back to Timex for repair so I hope it comes back OK. I gave it to him at the start of his first IM training last summer, so it kind of has sentimental value for both of us.

The ProTrainer NV, that was it! It is much flatter than the one I wear now.

I have a Timex Speed + Distance System and find it reliable and accurate. It has a tough time in very urban settings with tall buildings. Most problems are at initial start up also. I find that it is more reliable when I let it sync up and wait a minute or so before starting out. Tom D. was working on a review of the system and was going to look at it’s accuracy over hilly terrain. There was a question as to whether or not it compesated for hills or had a ‘flat earth’ view.
