Women's clothing sizes are

I am 5’2 - 105lbs and cannot go anywhere and buy clothes. I used to fit in the 0 Petite at Ann Taylor or BR, but now even that is too big (and no, I haven’t shrunk!). Now clothing manufacturers are making 00P - DOUBLE ZERO - are you kidding me! And my sweater sets from Ann Taylor are XXS Petite. It has totally gotten out of hand. I haven’t bought new clothes for work in a good 6 months because I refuse to pay full price for something and then go have it tailored so that it fits!

Truth be told, I buy alot of my casual clothes in Aeropostale and American Eagle. Too bad they don’t have a more professional line of clothing.

Good luck to you man. If your wife is anything like me, she won’t be offended if the size is wrong. I have just accepted that if I like something in a store, I probably can’t fit into it.

funny Ann Taylor is being mentioned. I just went online to check out a jacket and I was shocked they offer size “00”…wtf??? THat means their 2 is actually probably a 6.

I love how Nicole De Boom’s website (skirtsports) says something to the effect of “Nicole wears a medium and she’s hot”! Then again Skirtsports are the biggest offender when it comes to sloppy size specs. At least they’re not doing the vanity sizing thing.

To the OP…you never said what sort of garment you are thinking of buying. JMO, you are much safter buying a knit item, somethign that runs in the “S, M, L” range, than to buy something that would have a number size.

We haven’t even talked about the difference between Junior (odd numbers) and Women’s (even numbers) sizing yet. Oftentimes fit women have the body of a Junior but have the fashion sense of a woman. eek!

Bless you.

A guy can say, hmm…I’m a 32x32, and if they like the style of pants (i.e. baggy, straight leg, etc), can pick them up of the rack w/out trying them on. He can order a shirt from a catalog b/c he knows his neck and arm measurements. He can buy a pair of pants off the internet with out fear a small will actually be a medium, or a large really means small.

I bought a men’s pair of cago pants at REI a couple of weeks ago. I walked to the rack and grabbed a 30x32. And I knew they’d fit. Then, I walked over to the women’s section and grabbed about 5 pairs of WOMEN’S pants…a size 8, a size 10, a 12, an XL and a Medium. I had to try them all and play the guessing game.

Ann Taylor is the worst for making their sizes too big. I like the way their clothes look on the hanger, but nothing there fits me!

Actually I find the Gap and BR to be much worse offenders than Ann Taylor. Their 0P and XS used to fit me like a glove until the 00P & XXS came out. They fit me pretty well. I can’t buy any pants in either the Gap or BR without making my tailor richer.

I have the same problem with pants. Muscular legs, skinny waist. I suppose it’s fairly common among female triathletes. If I go by waist size, I can’t pull the pants up over my thighs. If they fit my legs, the pants are too baggy in the waist. Lately I’ve been going for pants that stretch a bit, and simply tightening up my belt so that they stay on. I wouldn’t even care about the numbers if I could find something that actually fit.

If only I could live in split shorts and pyjama pants all the time. That would be the life.

well, i’m 5’4’’ and a touch under 120. if she is fairly muscular, she probably wears my size. what company? (note: i am bizarly narrow-hipped, but other than that fairly normal sized)

some companies have better size charts. i’ve made good use of the online victoria secret catalogue which has a lot of normal clothing

Actually, what I found a few years ago is that one’s size number is inversely proportional to the amount of money one spends on an item.

At one point, I was wearing size 14 K-Mart jeans, size 10 or 12 outfits from The Limited, size 8 dresses from Casual Corner, and my graduation dress, from a really expensive boutique, was a size 4 (four, not a typo).
