Woman's Appearl Question

My wife is looking to join me in doing a triathlon, sprint distance. I am very supportive, but she has asked me a question I am very unqualified to answer.

Please HELP -

My wife is, well, some what endowed in the chest. She wants one piece of clothing to wear for her race, and is concerned about support (not from me, but rather for her two friends). What should she wear? Any product suggestions ladies? Of course this clothing choice has to not only hold everything in place but also look good.

Thanks

Not that I have ever remotely had to contend with this issue myself (except for a few months after giving birth) BUT, Title 9 has a great selection of sports bras for women of all shapes and sizes.

“My wife is looking to join me in doing a triathlon”

The couple that tris together stays together. Seriously, you’ll have a blast. My wife always beats me on the run (who doesn’t) but at least i show her who’s boss on the bike.

To answer your question, any good running store will have a decent selection of sports bras for the ladies.

Take a look at the HIND Threshold Triathlon Top

  • it has a high-cut neck and high-cut armholes, characteristics your wife will probably be looking for in a sports bra/swim bra.

I also remember seeing a Louis Garneau top with similar design (http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=8444) ← I THINK this was it

Cyborg is right about the Title IX sports bras, but also Champion has good ones. Just be sure to not buy the ones made out of cotton. She can then wear it under a tri-jersey or solo with a pair of tri shorts. I definitely have experience in this area, though you lose a lot of weight and what’s the first to go?

Good luck to your wife in her training and race!!

clm, way too busy at work

…if you go for a “traditional” fitness sports bra under a tri top you have to test that combination in the water BEFORE your first race. Some really loose shape (even if not made out of cotton) and/or can create drag when swimming. I have experienced that with Underarmour sports bras - great on land but not good in water - even though they looked as if they could handle swimming…

I have 2 really great jogging bras that I race with. One is a Hind and the other I can’t remember, but is a popular running wear brand. I wear them (one at a time) with tri shorts when I race. They are not cotton, but some kind of sweat-wicking material. They are very supportive and are not a problem to swim in as long as I use a wetsuit. I have a tri top, but I find it doesn’t have good enough support.

Congrats to you and your wife. It’s so nice to hear about couples who race together!!
