OK, I did a search, lots of cassette threads, but I couldn’t find the answer to this one:
I put a 9 speed cassette on a new Mavic wheel. The lockring won’t tighten down all the way, leaving the cassette a little loose.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Needs a spacer… something like 1 or 2mm… fits on the cassette body and then you put the cassette on… call Mavic to confirm…
You need a spacer with about 1mm. I bet you’re running an 11-tooth cog, this doesn’t happen with the 12.
you might need a spacer, but you might also need to simply ensure you have everything tight enough. typically 10-speed cassettes are the ones which need the extra spacer…
Any chance it being a Mavic Cosmic Elite wheel ???
Thanks for your replies!
The wheel is a Kyserium ES.
The lockring is definitely as tight as it will go - I tightened it down so much that I almost couldn’t get it back off.
Will check with Mavic re. spacer. I am aware that 10 speed cassettes need a spacer, but I haven’t needed one before with 9 speed.
I don’t remember what size the biggest cog is - I’ll take a look at that when I get home. I’m at work right now (that’s why I’m discussing bikes on the internet!).
