I have been racing with a partially torn patellar tendon and torn ACL for the past 6-7 months and it finally caught up with me on wednesday. During the regular track workout it just started hurting really bad. Not that it did’nt before, but this was different. I think she’s blown for good now and will need some reconstruction. I’m going to have to shelve the rest of this year and hope to be fully ready for next. DAMN!!! It sucks when you love your sport sooo much to have to give it up for any amount of time. I knew it was inevitable but I guess I was hoping it would finally give out as I stumbled across the finish line with a new PR and not so undramatically.
Good luck … And if its of any interest I just celebrated the 15th annaversary of my ACL reconstruction. And it is what brought me to triathlon, or the rehab (lots of cycling and swimming) brought me to triathlon. My recovery was very quick for 15 years ago; 4 months from surgery to back on the tennis court (I was a Div I tennis player at the time). I hope yours goes as well as mine did. Again Good Luck!
Thanks PH. I also had ACL reconstruction 21 years ago (age 17) on my other knee which has done well. The recovery time then was very long because of the procedures at the time did not provide for any type of transplantation. Back then I did’nt get off crutches for 3 months! I am more optimistic this time that I can go ahead and get it over with and be good to go for next year. Heck I can barely walk on it now but I will e in the pool tommorrow wth a pull bouy!
