Wireless Bike Computers with Rear sensor

I’m looking for a new bike 'puter after tearing my Cateye MITY3 off my bike in a fit of rage yesterday - it stopped working, again, and I’d had enough. The wire seemed to make intermittent contact, and it just wouldn’t get contact no matter how much I wiggled. Anyhow…

  • Cateye Strada Double Wireless

  • Cateye V2C

  • Polar SD200cad

I really would like cadence, a rear wheel sensor, and wireless

  1. Am I missing any other options?

  2. Is the V2C really worth the extra $$ for the bigger display and 2.4ghz?

  3. Is the Polar worth the extra $$?

Any reviews / comments would be appreciated - I’ve searched and seen some good stuff, but nothing comparing them.

Cheers/

I’ve got the V2C and really really really like it. Never lose a signal and it has just worked for me. Easy to install and no problems so far. The main requirement for me when I was shopping was 2.4ghz as these devices just seem to plain work better than previous generations.

How about the Garmin Forerunner or Edge 305, and the speed/cadence sensor? The Forerunner’s can be had cheaply (relatively speaking) these days and can provide all kinds of fun options over a standard cycle computer, like virtual partners, mapping, etc etc.

The Edge with the speed/cadence sensor is just too expensive. I thought about the Forerunner, but since I already have a Polar HRM/SD setup, I wanted something just for the bike. I also want the rear wheel sensor for the trainer!

The Garmin sensor is rear wheel and works great on the trainer. I am not affiliated with the Garmin folks in any way but I made the switch to the Forerunner + Sporttracks software and I can’t imagine going back.

I’m not sure, but only the Polar CS600 and RS800 can operate with a rear mount, but unfortunately not compatible with the older polar watches. Those two newer models use WIND technology. So unless your polar HRM is a RS800 your looking at another option…

Just another case where Polar blew it by thinking everyone is rich and was going to throw away all their old stuff and upgrade to the newer technology. If you don’t like it, move onto to Garmin…wait… thats what people are… doing.

I love polar, but part of it was because of how there gear all works together as a total system. If I have an older s625x, and pick up a bike computer, why in the world wouldn’t I want the bike sensors and extra strap to work with my new watch? Still love the software and the idea of a Polar system, but if you pick polar make sure you look into what works with what.

The rear mount stuff is RS800 or CS600 only. Somebody can correct me if I am wrong…

I bought a V2C off the classifieds earlier this year and it has worked great.

I’ve got a Cateye, 300DW with an extra sensor for your second bike that I can sell you cheap.
I moved to SRM so I don’t need it anymore.

PowerTap makes a unit that can be integrated with a power meter hub if you buy one down the road.

My Blackburn Neuro 6.0 has all the functionality you are looking for…wireless, rear wheel sensor, cadence, etc. It also works with any 2.4GHz HRM strap…it works like a champ with the strap from my Powertap kit. It also includes altitude gain, which is pretty cool. Overall, I’ve been pretty happy with it.

Avoid Polar at all costs, unless you want to service it every 3 months. I have a 625, 725, and CS200 and literally I have to send one of them for repairs/problems. I’m stucked with Polar but if you want to trade a Cateye for all my Polar crap I’ll be more than happy.

Cateye is your best bet

Blackburn Neuro 4.0 also works. I just picked one up a week or two ago and love it.

I and a few others I know on here bought a v2c off ebay for $100, and I love it.
Piece of cake to set up, picks up the signal fine all the way at the front of my aerobars, cadence, speed, everything reliable & accurate.
Never a lag or dropped signal, even when wearing a differently-branded HR monitor.

I’ve had the V2C for maybe 3 weeks now. Easy to set up, easy to use. Love it.

V2C worked without any problem since February - best computer I’ve had so far.

i have a cateye CD300 (wireless with one cadence/speed sensor on chainstay). i love it. see link below. it has 4 fields, compared to all the new cateye computers which only have 3 i think.

jpeluso:

How much were you thinking of for your 300DW?

I was going to send you a private message, but you don’t have an email address listed.

And does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced 2nd bike sensor for any of the cateye computers?

It seems a bit silly to pay $100 for a V2C computer on ebay, and then another $85 just for the sensor for my other bike.

I am a huge fan of the Mavic wintech computer. It picks up rear cadence and speed from the front skewer. When it is on the stationary trianer I use the home trainer accessory that installs real qucik on the the seat stay.

I’ve got a wireless kit and a second sensor for your second bike.
