Wipperman chain thoughts?

My lbs decided I wanted a Wipperman chain this year. I went along with it, it was either the slightly cheaper Dura-ace or the $60 Wipperman, so I figured, what the heck, you only die once.

I’ve got a few hundered miles on it, and I’m not sure I luv it. I can’t complain that it’s failed me, and the ability to completly take tha chain off the bike is nice, but I guess I’m still on the chainlink fence about it.

One note, when I’m pedaling, especially while I’m pedaling hard/out of the saddle I feel a slight click. I’d never felt anything like it with other chains, and it seems to be timed to the chain completing it’s cycle. Should I be worried about this? Any thoughts?
The only other comment I have is that it sure seems to get dirty fast and needs to be lubed often.

Does anyone else have anything to say about the chains?

Hola, I’ve been using the 10sp SS versions for racing and training for a year now. I snapped one just after Christmas but received a free replacement from the retailer. I have however, snapped a 10sp Campy Record chain too. Overall, I like the ability to remove it for cleaning/ flying and am the only person I have heard of breaking one. Compared to the Campy alternative, it wins hands down. (BTW, I am 72kg and 188cm - so not large).

As for the clicking problem - ensure that you have installed the connex link the right way up - try switching it and see what happens. I run mine on carbon campy record and regular record groupos with no drama.

If the link is the wrong way around and you are running an 11 tooth ring you would certainly know it! If you are running a 12 a click might be all you hear.

I’ll check that, thanks.

Now I get to figure out what was making the “ratchet wrench” noise yesterday.

make sure you guys go and try the SRAM chain I think they are nice!

I am running Wipperman (nickel) on the road bike, SRAM (Sr 59) on the cx bike.

Thought the SRAM shifted better despite all the honking it took. (Both bikes are Shimano 9sp).

Never broke either, fwiw.
