Wipperman 10X1 and 10S1. I have done a lot of research

I was curious about the current dilima I was having with my chain . wipperman 10X1 and 10S1. I have done a lot of research and 10X1, even though it is designed for campy application. I have been told by some bike shops that it will work. I did get the chain and on my p3 sl there is a knock that of course knocks from some other source maybe from the 10x1 being too wide. It’s too wide or it could be the derailler . I will find it out in a few days. It appears the 10S1 was designed for the shimano application and I guess that is the difference. . So I suppose I will get the correct 10S1 and go on ebay and get rid of 10x1. I was just curious what your thoughts are. I am not sure why I am so stuck on wipperman

Read Dan’s Ideal Drivetrain article. He loves the Wipperman.

There was a post on this a month or so ago on this subject. The 10X1 is definitely to wide for the Shimano cassette. I learned this first hand as well. I was told by an LBS that the 10X1 would work but it was rattling and made gear changes awkward. I did the cost effective thing and changed out my entire grouppo to Campy so that I could use the 10X1 ;-). The 10S1 should do just fine for you. There are some Wipperman lovers on the list including myself and you probably like that removable link which makes taking off, cleaning, and reinstalling a cinch. I don’t see myself going back to a “regular” chain again. Good luck with the 10S1.

Just an FYI; an email from Glory Cycles that I just received: http://www.glorycycles.com/wi10ch10spfo.html The most sought after chain for 10 speed shimano. 10 % discount with Promo code: PromoTDF0714 You save $ 7.99 With Promo: $ 71.91

It’s $75 CDN at a store here in Victoria, BC. That’s only $62 USD. Doesn’t seem like such a good deal… Or maybe my deal is incredible, and I should stock up!

You’re right. I found it even cheaper when I did a search:

That’s $64.95 @ Wise Cysles.

What store is that? Do they mail order? I’m in Canada too and looking for one of these chains.

Ironically, the name is Performance, but Performance Cycles (as opposed to the mega US store, Performance Bike). I don’t know if they mail order. Telephone is 250-727-6655. Give 'em a ring.

Thanks! I’ll give them a shot.
