Winter vs Summer olympics

If you could choose, would you rather be a summer or winter Olympian? Olympic Champion?

Fewer medals given out at the Winter Olympics, making at it that much harder to win one (compare eg 9 golds for US at the winter versus 48 at the summer). Having said that, a medal at the Olympics is a medal at the Olympics.

i am thinking the majority will vote summer and triathlon for a gold medal.

Winter Olympic S B R for the win please.

I might have a chance when everyone else pusses out

Maybe fewer medals but far fewer human beings competing at winter sports and have access.

If I could pick an event to medal in, it would be the men’s 100m or the 1500m. Either would do, but as I started off life as a sprinter, I’d take the 100m. That’s the purest athletic events in that almost every human on the planet had to sprint at some point in life in elementary school meaning if you win that one, you truly beat everyone on the planet. For example, the champion of the Olympic downhill could just as easily be in Ghana or Nigeria, but all those big guys with fast twitch muscle fiber who would be perfect for a short 2:xx downhill event, never get a crack at it.

winter because the sports are just that much cooler…

definitely giant slalom Olympian. because going down at 85 mph and being able to turn requires some serious brass…

Definitely winter. For some reason biathlon just strikes me as the coolest sport…

Winter as they seem way more social…I’d spend my post training recovery in the Day Lodge Bar…

Easy. Winter - because otherwise it would interfere with my riding!

If I could pick the sport to medal in 1) Hockey (goalie), 2) Biathlon, 3) bobsled (any), 4) luge, 5) skeleton.

Alas, I had/have no talent. Other than that…

Depends on what country you are from. We (Canada) had 18 (1 gold) medals London , 26 (14 gold) in Vancouver, 25 (10 gold) in Sochi.

I swept out my garage today thinking it would help me get ready for 2018 Curling team. If there were just more Curling leagues here in Houston, I think I’d be a shoe in.

Biathlon and cross country skiing two of the coolest sports
.

summer. Marathon

summer. Marathon

Summer, 1500 m freestyle:)

Summer. 800M. Always been my favorite race to run.

Most entertaining event to watch though? Definitely short track speed skating. Especially the relay.

And on a side note, going to have to pick up biathlon someday…

For me the Summer Games seems a little more the ‘real deal’ but the winter games has an attractive intimacy, at least in the UK small teams and success much more exclusive over here.

Going with summer, because the Lolo Jones we see at the summer olympics has more hotness than the one we see at the winter olympics.

The only real pure Olympic athlete that has been ultra-famous in my lifetime is Bruce Jenner.

Decathlon!

For money Point Guard for basketball or Winger for hockey as it means you are already making $10M+ a year.

Very true. You can get pretty close to that experience with motorcycles though. One of the greatest thrills I’ve ever had was coming into turn 1 at the end of a long straight on a sportbike at close to 150mph braking as hard and late as possible while making a pass up the inside before tossing it over still doing 80mph, scraping a few parts, knee skimming on the ground, then rolling back on it. Add some esses, elevation changes, carousels and it’s like a roller coaster that’s a lot faster, without the rails or safety harness. The best was maybe the blind apex coming uphill at 100mph that exited to the main straight. That’s one was really cool.

Wouldn’t you choose the sport you most wanted to compete in first?

FWIW - The great Clara Hughes who has accomplished the rare and extraordinary achievement of winning Olympic Medals in both the Summer (Cycling) and Winter(Speed skating - long track), admitted on TV the other night during the Sochi Winter Games coverage on CBC, that if she were ever to come back and do it all over again, cross-country skiing would be the sport she would choose to do!
