Given that it’s mid-May, I’m certain that just about everyone has one thing on their minds: winter triathlon preparation.
I’ve read about it a bunch and am excited to give it a whirl later this year or early 2011. I can’t find a darned thing about it. USAT’s staff couldn’t help me. The search function on this forum didn’t yield much. Is there a corner of the Internets (sic) where winter triathlon aficionados lurk? Where are there races? Where is the US national championship going to be held this coming season? Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
it is too early for that kind of info - those races aren’t that big so even ITU don’t have anything for next winter (http://www.triathlon.org/...amp;event_year=2010) so just rollerski and wait I guess. But, to make a story more optimistic here is some hint: Russian Triathlon federation with it’s president Anatoliy Korobov (ITU executive board member and well respected person in the countries sport) putting a lot of funds in national WT team with good results at World Champ and Cup and Russia hosting next Winter Olympics with the possibility to add some new sport to the games (and they will look for any chance for revenge after Vancouver’s defeat) … so things may change in the near future
On the eastcoast, the season was a bit of a bust this past year. One great race, one OK race, and three that were cancelled due to weather (or lack thereof). There is a facebook page for the eastcoast winter tri series. It is not a bad place to start, and it will provide some general information about the sport and the races. Hope this helps a little, and if you are really interested, I just happen to have a bike for sale:
There is some information on training and winter triathlon racing on our website. http://www.bashwintertri.com/ We typically schedule the BASH Winter Tri on Martin Luther King weekend, but it could change depending on what other races are going on at Soldier Hollow.
My training suggestions for the summer would be to mnt bike and run on sand (soft and/or firm) or muddy trails. These conditions should help simulate the experience of running and biking on snow. For skiing get a pair of roller skies for the summer, then skate ski as much as possible in November and December. You’ll go a lot faster skating and the more time on skies you have the better your technique will be.
Ah, thanks to each of you for the responses. These are a big help, and, of course, I’ll start paying closer attention to the calendars once October and November roll around.
If others have suggestions for websites and what-not, please feel free to chime in.
I’m ressurecting this thread to try and get more information about the sport. Is there a popular 'site for finding out where races are? Trifind.com? Others?
