Trekked out to a state park yesterday to get some pics. This past week we had a “significant winter weather event” (as the NWS termed it) of snow, freezing rain, sleet, and then more snow. While it was a mess on the roads (and still is, thanks to the 4" of snow and then rain on top of that that created a massive layer of ice that is still on the roads in my subdivision), it was beautiful in the woods. Everything was covered in a clear coating of ice, and when the wind came up, everything crackled from the fracturing of the ice on the limbs. It was really cool. Anyway, took my son Nick and my Nikon D50 out to get some pics. Here are some, hope you like 'em.
Edit: I posted a bunch, and for some reason some are showing up, and others are not. I’ve tried 3 times now, to no avail. Anyway, here’s 3 pics.
These are some cool pics (no pun intended). I hate winter, but every now and again there are some aspects of it that make me appreciate the beauty of the world. Ice storms like this are beuatiful to look at.
Some more photo’s from this Ohio winter… I went for a hike in Hocking Hills today. Everything was melting and ice was raining down from the Hemlocks, but it was beautiful!
**That is a Honda Element under there, somewhere. **
I Would have guessed a Land Rove based on its height.
That is a ton of snow for you for sure.
Is it all gone now? Ours has persistently hung on. It seems as though it will be another nice day in the low to mid-30’s. I might actually find my driveway again.
All gone except for one little patch that refuses to give in right by my mailbox. That’s how we ended up with all that flooding a week after these pictures were taken.
These pictures were taken last winter, but the scene in front of our house today is close to being the same - in fact their might be a bit more snow this year! Yes that’s right, the snow banks are over 5 feet tall!
