Winter diet

Last year I weigherd in around 150 lbs for the race season. At 5’9", I want to bring that down to 140 lbs for next season. Currently I’m at 160 lbs for my “off-season” diet.

I’m planning on staying portly at 160 until after the holiday binging is over and then plan to drop 20 pounds over 5 months. Mostly by slightly increasing my run and swim mileage, but to start hitting the bike training a bit more rigorously. But I also plan to go with this new study out of Sweden for weight loss. It looks to hit all the major points needed for athletes and dieting and the scientific data to back it up is very convincing. Here is the link youtube link for the tutorial on their data:

Anyone else think this is the way to go?

Well, if your goal is to look like the models (and there is nothing wrong with that) then it sounds great! Although I have my suspicions that some augmentation may have taken place so that does add a bit of weight but tucking the puppies in may help your aero position (along with other positions :)). Before and after pictures would be in order.

I’m also dropping my coach and going with the prescribed daily fitness of 20 minute intervals.

Doesn’t 20 lb swings twice a year fall into yoyo dieting?

John

First, I need to get through this pillowcase of candy. Then I can start thinking about some kind of “diet”.

Can’t access youtube from work. What’s the basic idea of the diet?

And I would agree that 20 pounds sounds extreme. Need multiple sets of clothes?

I don’t think you listened to the commentary in the educational video on this nutrition plan.

veggies and fish

I’d start now, not after the holidays, or be prepared to up your target to 30 pounds…

That is a really bad plan all around.
Weight loss starts in the kitchen not out on the road.
You need to alter your eating now rather than wait 2 months.
It is better to teach yourself to eat properly and lose weight when you are not training as much- then “eat up” for longer and harder training.
If you depend on training to lean you out- your training will not be as good because you are always cheating on calories.
If you start now- you could be a good chunk of the way to 140 lb by X-mas.

Well, technically I’m not absent from training. I’m putting in 60+ miles of running per week and putting in 15k+ of swimming per week. That is my baseline for now and I plan to go up in the swimming soon to 20k. Come March I will introduce more speed work in all areas.

I honestly don’t think I can gain much more weight when I live on a diet of Taco Bell, Capn Crunch with Crunch Berries, and Oreos.

I really think the swedish protocol is the way to go. It has good fundamental hydration in the plan and a vigorous training schedule.

Damn…we are about the same height (I’m just a bit over 5’9") and came in at about the same race weight this year (149-151). I can’t imagine going down to 140. What is driving your desire to reach that weight target?

Winning…duh. Sorry, I heard Charlie Sheens voice in my head.

Want to go sub 10 at an IM this summer and the run is going to be the deciding factor.

I’m not too sure how much weight you’ll lose, your forearm might get stronger though after watching that video…

here is another option

Sounds easy enough

You have got to be kidding me. That is possibly one of the most ridiculous commercials I have ever seen. Those girls might have been attractive had I not wanted to punch them in the face.

Good luck with that…

This thread is FAS!

Edit - never mind. Was finally able to view the video…
