any great/interesting diet tips or plans for the winter?
port

i dont like eating vegetables is drinking odawalla and naked juice just as good? or when they blend it some of the nutrients are lost…
some nutrients are lost in blending, but they usually enrich or fortify them anyways (thank you college basic nutrition class) its not as great as the real deal but its a good second
.
port
and chocolate!
When I resided in colder climes and was trying to control diet, I’d start meals with a bowl of soup. Warmed me up and reduced total food intake. Obviously less effective if you try it with cheesy chili, New England clam chowder or other liquid-based calorie bombs.

check how much fructose/sucrose they add. you gotta save your fructose metabolic pathways for the port.
if you are going to get fat and diabetic you might as well get drunk too.

THIS WORKS !
Periodize your caloric intake like you do your training.

I am on the “add body fat so I don’t freeze” plan. I always gain 5 lbs in the winter- just to try and keep warm. Living on Lake Erie is cold!! As soon as spring hits, the weight falls right off. I’m still maintaining an active training plan, so it’s been harder to gain it. I’m guessing that won’t be the case after thanksgiving next week!
Broth based soup in the crockpot. I just made a batch of buffalo meat and black bean chili. I’ll eat for lunch/snack all week and probably a few meals on the weekend. I don’t always use buffalo or black beans, I mix it up, sometimes add squash or sweet potatoes to keep it interesting.
Eat,drink and be merry. I’ve already gained 10 lbs and am just trying not to get any heavier. Lugging around 195lbs on those longish runs really sucks!
My diet so far has consisted of lots of wine, good cheeses, sweets, cookies, etc. Occassionally I get some protein and vegetables.
GhiaGirl can you PM me your recipe for buffalo meat and black bean chili? Sounds good and healthy.
Thanks.
I prefer mead. At least that way you get some good stuff from the raw honey.
I have been upping my veggies, drinking more water and am trying to include more turkey into my diet instead of red meat. I also recently discovered a chicken chili recipe that is killer and good for you…makes my mouth water thinking about it. My goal is to drop 5lbs over this offseason so I am slightly leaner for the early race season.
Nut brown ale.
+1 I would love to get that recipe.

I’m not sure what raw means now
never heated or treated. Keeps all the enzymes and good bee byproducts in there. also tastes unreal if you get good stuff.

its in fucking mead
its been treated!
=)
okay well you got me there, but the process isn’t destructive to that stuff from what I understand, but I could be full of shit. Either way I’m still drinking.
