I’m doing a sprint tri on Sunday and they are predicting windy conditions (15-20 mph). The bike course is a rectangular 15 miles thru residential streets. My wheel choices are a zipp 404front/renn disc back; zipp 404 front and back, or non-deep rim Richeys. I’m leaning towards the zipp404/renn disc combo. I’m wondering whether the windy conditions will materially negate the disc advantage or, worse yet, be slower than the other combos. Just got the renn disc so I don’t have much experience with it. Any intelligent advice?
404/renn withough a doubt.
i race a jet 90/renn and have been fine in winds up to 25mph.
From some of the wind tunnel tests I have seen, discs perform better especially at high yaw angles
.
as deep as you can get.
Absolutely the 404/disc. Not only will the winds not negate the disc, the opposite is true. Disc wheels are better in the wind.
