Wind Tunnel Testing-Where?

If I wanted to go get my position on my TT bike checked out, where would I go? Is there a “premier” wind tunnel all the pro’s go to? What’s the price on such a session? Thanks.

There’s a real nice wind tunnel at Texas A&M that is very good to work at. The MIT windtunnel is also available and they have some knowledgeable people on staff there. The A&M windtunnel is very busy so booking time there has to be worked out but the accuracy and data aquisition is very good.

John - Do you offer any wind tunnel / fit clinics?

Yes, I go to the A&M tunnel 3-4 times a year and I’m always glad to have riders there. I do not have any clinics planned this year but I have found that for a real improvement for a rider you need to take the time to make small changes and document their specific equipment choices. Getting the basics like correct positioning done first before going into the tunnel helps, wasting big money sitting in a windtunnel while you work on seat tilt or just basic setup is a bad plan. Every model frame requires small differences in bottles, wheel gaps, cables, etc. to get them fast, riders need the same tune up. Your shoulder shape, flexibility, core strength and type of racing all dictate the end result. It takes some time, cost can depend on how many people are there testing but if you get a couple of people together then it’s about $1000 - $1200.00 each. For this you get a lot of very specific testing and tuning.
