Wind-Tunnel Tested Front-Mount Water Bottle

OK, I am having a hard time finding a product that I think I’ve seen. A few months ago, I remember seeing an article covering a pro triathlete spending time in the wind tunnel. It might have been on the Internet or in a magazine - I can’t remember. Anyway, it appeared that there were a few other things being tested at the same time, including a front-mount water bottle that intrigued me.

I’m going to have a hard time describing it, but it was basically a regular sport bottle mounted between the aerobars with an added piece on the front which included a fill hole and a vertical drinking tube. If I remember right, it actually was just a sport bottle with this new piece screwed on. In essence, it is a cross between something like a Profile Design Aerodrink and a sport bottle mounted in an X-Lab Torpedo mount.

If anybody has any idea about what I’m trying to describe, I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe I was hallucinating…

Thanks!

The athlete I belive was Andy Potts, the product was the Speedfill A2 (or something of that effect).

You are absolutely right - I kept searching, and here it is:

Thanks for your help!

Take a look at Cervelo’s recent insights on aerdynamics and water bottles:

.

Thanks for sharing that, Tom. That’s actually the article that got me thinking about the Speedfil A2. Through trial and error, I currently own both a Profile Design Aero Drink system and an X-Lab Torpedo setup. I like the aero aspect of the Torpedo and I like the convenience of the Aero Drink, so I thought the A2 might bridge the gap. As the article states, the straw sticking up is the really bad part. So, I guess I’m not quite sure where to go with these thoughts, if anywhere. I’ll probably put the Torpedo back on, but I’m undecided about what kind of advantage the A2 could net me. It’s probably not worth it. I’ve got bigger aero problems to focus on first.

Thanks again!

Some have rigged a torpedo bottle with a flexible straw, personally I like front bottles, but never likes the rigid straw.
