Wind tunnel test of Wheel Cover?

Has anyone ever done this?

It seems people accept that a disk wheel cover has almost the same drag as a disk but does it. Has this ever been tested?

it has

Does it say when this test was made? Back in the mid/late 80s I had disc wheel covers manufactured for me. They didn’t sell very well, I think I only sold a couple hundred of them.

Anyway, I paid a famous wind tunnel and aerodynamics guru to test a prototype covered disc wheel at Texas A&M’s wind tunnel.

Off the record via the phone he said they were very close in performance to an actual disc and better than the other wheel covers he was paid to test. Mine were bonded to the wheel so that might have been an unfair advantage over the floppy disc wheel covers of the time.

the test in biketechreview was in 2003
.

Then it wasn’t mine.

they tested a CH cover (the same kind you get from wheelbuilder today) vs a flat zipp disk at various yaw angles
