Last night calamity reared its ugly head. The 51" wide-screen I bought would not fit correctly where I wanted it, and building it into the wall was not an option. So, the 51" went upstirs, the home theater sound system goes downstairs with the trainer and the smaller TV, a 40" or slighty larger, and the whole thing fits perfectly. One last visit from the cranky contractors tomorrow morning and we are nearing completion.
I’m finally in front of a 36" screen, full home theater, in a finished basement. Its awesome compared to the many years I spent spinning in an unfinished basement - cold, damp…single light bulb swinging overhead - it was more like mafia interrogation than cycling.
Lighting was a big pre-requisite for me. I had one light bulb in the middle of the room. Now I have four light fixtures in globes. They were only $5 each and installed easily right to the rafters. the wiring was the big job, running new GFI outlets and the conduit through the walls- we had to pull off the panellng and discard it, then the drywall underneath (?) and pitch that. Then the wiring went in and then maple-finish slatwall over top.
Looks OK, not fancy, but OK. It’s birght, roomy-ish and clean looking. The cats like it too.
Ariel: there is a reason they need to ride in a dark dank basement in Feb. We get to ride in the beautify outdoors year round. I was in the city Sunday for the SF half and it was very nice. Probably a bit colder in Dearbourn.
