who are these people?
lol. Despite being an hour away i’ve never seen in person. The only way I’m affording it is queuing for returns by the go-homers at 3:00, which apparently does work.
Is watching tennis live worth it?

I stood in the queue a few years ago and spent the day walking around doing the general admission thing. It was definitely worth the experience. Getting to see professional sports of any kind up close makes you appreciate how good even the lower ranked players really are. The facilities are cool, you get to stand on Henman Hill, drink some Pimms cup and eat some food, buy a souvenier, etc. I got to see a handful of celebrities walking around, watched Djokovic on the big screen because you don’t get into center court or anything, but I definitely was happy I did it. The queue is fine. People are eating and drinking and having fun.
When I saw your first sentence I thought you were referring to the state of the women’s bracket.
Friends who have attended US Open, French Open, and Wimbledon have all raved about how enjoyable it was.
i think i’d love it. the gladiatorial aspect is very cool.
John McEnroe is commentating for the BBC – he’s good value.
Go for it if you can. You won’t hear McEnroe’s commentary if you watch in person (unless you stream it via headphones?).
When I used to play regularly and follow the sport more closely I got the chance to spend the day at the US Open (saw one of Edberg’s final matches as he neared retirement).
Amazing how good the pros are, and how hard they (men) hit the ball compared to even the best players at the local club/public courts. And people watching and celebrity spotting can be fun too.
Well worth going for the experience. Lining up is part of the experience.
What does it cost to watch non nose bleed wimbleton? I have no idea. I like Ike thought you meant the women;'s bracket. Coco out in the first round.
the person i was talking to yesterday said centre court tickets are in the thousands. She said if you go after 3:00 there are returns of people who have had their morning watch – much much cheaper. I’m too busy next week to try it but maybe next year.
I seem to remember ground passes (general admission on the day) are something like 20-30 pounds. Stand in the Queue early in the morning and get a full day in. It’s not very expensive. No need to wait until 3pm.
This tournament has been a blood bath for the top ranked women. 2-6 ranked players are all already out.
that would be for getting steep discounts on centre court seats
otherwise, for outside courts, big screen, vibe, the ground passes are great
Sure. If you just want the experience of sitting on centre court, then waiting for early leavers is an option. But if you want the Wimbledon experience for cheap, ground passes are the way to go. There aren’t too many premiere sporting events you can get into for less than $50 and watch all day.
The wife and I spent two weeks in London 2019. On a whim we took the train to Wimbledon to check out some early round action. Our plan was like most, get in line for the early check-out tickets. When we arrived the line just to get into the venue was easily an hour, then we were told you had to Q up again for the early check out goodies. It was extra hot that day, and we said forget this, and started to head back. Just then an American couple passed us and asked if we wanted to buy their passes. No brainer yes. For twenty something (pounds, dollars, euros, can’t remember) we had seats in Court 1 between mid-court and baseline, in the first elevated section. Amazing view.
Anyway, we watched a match, and we started to leave, then they announced that another match was moving inside probably due to heat. It was Coco Gauff playing in an early round which was pretty cool. Great day all around. Wandered through all the grounds, bought all the regular food and merch that W is known for, and has an amazing memory.
Djokovic is out, having been beaten in reasonably convincing fashion by Sinner in the semis. Is he done winning Grand Slams?
Dkojovic wasn’t going to win with the groin-ish injury from the other day. You could see he was off balance and struggling to move.
Fritz put up a great fight, but Alcaraz was too much. He didn’t look unbeatable, but had what it took today.
Switek apparently played very well and her opponent choked. 6-0 6-0. Don’t see that often. Seems to be lots of variety in who wins on womens side lately
Anasimova was a bit of a surprise to make the finals, and she didn’t play well today. She relies on big hitting, and it looked like she was just a bit drained and tired. She was ranked in the 180s just last year after taking some time off for mental health, so maybe everything just came together to be a little too much for her.
It’s been mostly Swiatek, Sabalenka, and Goff for the past three years or so, with a handful of others here and there. Together, those three account for 10 of the last 15 grand slam titles. It was odd this year because a lot of the top women went out very early.
When I first saw her name I thought she was from one of the Slavic countries. A remarkable run to make it into the finals.
