I mentioned in the other thread how Ironman had to change the route back to the old out-and-back course because of protests by residents in Bergedorf. Now it appears that at Kirchwerder somebody threw sharp metal splinters on the road. In the livestream, you could see several age groupers standing on the side of the road with a mechanical. Thankfully, at least all of the pro main contenders seem to have safely passed that spot, but according to Tri-Mag over 100 age groupers were impacted, some even including with injuries, and the police have started a criminal investigation. Apparently, Kirchwerder is known among local cyclists to be home to a few vehemently anti-cyclists residents. Sadly, I don’t think it is likely that the police will able to identify the perpetrators.
