i mean the one they currently run in panama city beach, not a replacement race. i thought i heard a while back that their contract ran out this year and the race would be moving, but haven’t heard anything definitive. anyone know?
My understanding is that the contract is done on a year by year basis. However, I have heard and read that there is no intention of not renewing the contract and that they intend to keep holding Ironman Florida in Panama City.
I think it’s funny that if you have been in this forum long enough you’ll remember a question like this last year asking if there was going to be an IMF in 2005. In case there isn’t one next year you will still have the Great Floridian, an ironman distance race in Florida, although much tougher course.
Worrying over whether IMFL will be back the next year has become an IMNA tradition…kinda like watching the ones on the west coast bounce around every few years (california, utah, arizona…).

i only ask because my wife did last year’s race and i thought it looked like one i might like to do myself. cheap flight down there. can rent a beautiful condo on the ocean for dirt cheap. weather’s nice. makes for a nice little vacation. sure, i ran into some locals who were less than welcoming, but i met more who were happy to have us.

Heh, If you search, I’m sure I was one of the ones asking if it was going to take place.
I’ve actually talked to the RD(I think – it’s been a while, but it was an IMFL representative)on the phone, and I’ve been assured that the race will go on.
There were some miscommunications via email where I was told it wasn’t going to happen, but then they came back later and stated that indeed, it would keep going.
All of this of course, as anything in life, is subject to change on a moments notice.
