The new Pro Tour will require all pro teams to participate in all 3 Grand Tours as well as most of the Classics? How many teams can afford to do this?
USPS has shown that the way to win the TdF is to focus on it exclusively, and to skip the Giro. The core if the team was built completely to support Lance and win the TdF.
Can Discovery afford to hire 1 or more GC guys for the other Tours, as well as more support guys? George has done ok in the Classics with minimal support, but the focus was still on the TdF.
I think teams would have to have a Classics squad, a TdF squad, and a Giro/Vuelta squad. USPS (and other teams by their failure) has shown that there can be very little crossover between squads.
