Will the CH aero disc cover work on a front wheel?

I have a 32 hole box rim front wheel that I want to add a CH aero (excelsports.com) disc wheel cover to, but on the web site it says rear wheel only … will it work?

This is for a windless flat TT course, NOT for windy days.

Anyone have ideas ???

Thanks !!

The big problem is that they are shaped specifically for the rear wheel. Notice that the rear wheel side with the cassette is much “flatter” profile than the opposite side. The CH Aero covers are molded appropriately with a specific left and right side. If you then look at a front wheel you’ll see a different profile, more equal on each side, similiar to the non cassette side on the rear. Looking at mine I’d guess that two non cassette side rears would work just fine on the front but I’ve never tried it. You’ve no doubt read Kraig Willet’s aero test on the covers and appereciate for $59.95 what a performance bargain they are, but fitting them to the front side snuggley might be a challenge unless you purchase two sets and then just use the non cassette sides for the front. Also do a google and there are a couple of sites that tell you how to make your own wheel covers. The recumbent guys are into this in a big way.

This might also help http://www.recumbents.com/wisil/wheeldisk/wheeldisk.htm
.

thanks for the info, so for $120 I could convert it to a front disc, or try one of these other mothods for less.

how exactly does the CH aero wheel cover attach to your wheel?

and yes, I did read Kraig’s article.

I know of two front disc riders in my area, one on a HED and one on a Corima

Do you use 700 or 650 front wheels?

I’ve got (had) a couple front 650c disc. I just sold my flat (Ambrosio) front disc and have a lenticular (HED) one still. I haven’t found any performance gains with either over the tri-spoke I normally use even on still days with the average speed 28+ mph.

On paper they are faster, I just haven’t seen the results.

If you use 650c let me know, I’ve got one for you to use.

700c, but thanks for the info

"how exactly does the CH aero wheel cover attach to your wheel? "

It’s a screw/fastener system that comes with the covers. It will have pre drilled holes around the outer circumference of the disc covers.

Did you get your front wheel yet? Any comments?

I’ve just scored the hubs to make my Mavic Comete a track front and a track rear disc and may be trying out a disc/disc set up for TT for s&g.

Where can you buy these covers in the GWN? Western source preferred but not a big deal. Thanks

The only place that I’m aware of is these guys, but they do show up on ebay every once in awhile.
