Will the Blackwell 200/Disco be Kona legal?

after seeing pics of the Hed Kona Coast, and learning that it had too much surface area to be used a Kona, will the new Blackwell Research 200/Disco be Kona legal? it looks like it has more surface area than the Hed Kona Coast.

K, no more talking about cool new stuff without including pictures. This is a new ST rule. Starting… now

So…you have been here since September 26 2006 and you are making rules…again…you are an idiot.

Call me an idiot- but I haven’t seen a photo of this new wheel yet. Duh. I was probably standng next to one at Interbike and didn’t realize it.

Tom…not calling you an idiot …at all…
this is it.

I got some pictures didn’t I? I must be a smart idiot! YES!

“will the new Blackwell Research 200/Disco be Kona legal?”

Highly unlikely…for the same reasons the Kona Coast was not approved.

.

I believe that the kona coast was ruled out because it came out about 1 week before Kona and was not readily available to everyone. We had supplied windtunnel data etc. at the time but the lack of wheels for every body was more of an issue during the week before the race, every body that had one was going fast. Our 200 rim is different but we will have to wait and see how the rules are blowing in Kona next year, but they will be available for every racer early in the year. Our goal with the rim is to have a fast setup for Powertap users and a new alternative to a disc.

thank you Mr. Cobb and all the others for your intelligent insight

But will it be available as a clincher??!!!

I emailed them with that same question, this was the reply:

We are working on that as we type. The 50, 100, and 200mm
wheels will be available in an all carbon clincher early 2007. We look
forward to bringing you the absolute best technology money can buy. In
fact, we are heading to the wind tunnel tomorrow for more testing.

Thanks for your mail and continued patience.

I am going to build this into a front wheel for the track, and TT

200mm!

How much for the checker wheels? Name the price.

You’ll need to ask R&A about them, see the earlier thread the pic came from, I think it was the one begging them not to post any more pics - not sure if I’m allowed to use porn in this instance

Sounds like they’ll be available from HED…
