Will Snowsill be mad with Moffatt?

Why Fernandes would drive the lead pack to increase her gap over Australia’s Emma Snowsill is quite clear, but why did Australian Moffatt assist Fernandes in that quest? The gap at the end of the bike was 77 seconds and Fernandes eventually won by 64 seconds. I would love to have heard the team Australia small talk after the race.

I am not 100% sure on this, but … didn’t the first athlete from each country get an Olympic spot? (also had to be top 10)
-so maybe she wanted to beat Snowsill too.

Maybe Moffatt thought she could win (for Oz)…
Team tactics in triathlon are very hit and miss it seems. Team Spain used to do a great job for Rana but Gomez seems to be able to do it on his own. Team France has its moments while TeamGB has only just got it together on the male side. The British woman seem to hate each other more than they want to win… It doesn’t look as if TeamUSA has recovered from losing Barb and Shiela, I’m sorry but Laura just ain’t strong enough a cyclist and other than Kemper none of the US men are fast enough on the run…
Should countries field teams for the Olympics or continue with individual selection? That’s what it boils down to…

Are you embarrassed to be an Australian, Herbert?

I think that varies by country. For example, for the Americans, the first deciding race is in Beijing in a couple weeks.

There was a lot of talk about this from the Canadian side after Athens. The thought was that a team should have been put together to put Whitfield into that lead group going into the run. They needed some cyclists to bridge the gap for him, however, nobody wanted to do it. It is an interesting concept though. It would be tough asking someone who has qualified for the Olympics to essentially take themselves out of contention by blowing themselves up on the bike for someone else. Especially considering triathlon is not a “team” sport. But it would be one hell of a race if some teams decided to employ these types of tactics.
