My bike has a Quarq S975 crankset (SRAM Red Black chainrings, 10spd); the rest of the drivetrain is Ultegra 6700 (10spd). Everything works awesome together.
I’m looking to convert the shifters and derailleurs to Ultegra 6800 (11spd). Will my current Quarq 10spd crankset work with the new 11spd setup? I’ve heard of people keeping their Shimano 10spd cranksets when they switch over to 11spd. Or will it not work at all (or work with subpar performance)?
I’d really like to keep using my Quarq S975 if at all possible. I’m running a 50/38 setup which I like a lot (and which I understand can’t really be done optimally with 6800 chainrings). Also, getting a new crankset would mean possibly re-doing my bike fit.
This has been covered to death. Use the search function in future.
10 speed cranks will work with 11 and vice versa. If necessary, you can change out your chainrings on the quarq to 11 speed chainrings. Will there be a performance hit? All the manufacturers say yes but it is unnoticeable. Lots of people are using 10 speed cranks with 11 and no issues.
You can run 50-36 on shimano 6800 with no issues. Again the manufacturers claim some sort of subpar shifting but nothing that is too nig a problem. Unfortunately I think a 38 chainring for 4 bolt shimano had not been made yet.
Sub par performance is entirely relative, so you’ll have to judge that for yourself. Both setups will definitely work. They possibly wont be as whisper smooth as a complete group, but its unlikely you’ll notice
Praxis rings. Problem solved.
