Does anyone have experience using plastidip (the liquid stuff that you dip the item into, not the spray) as a coating for a high-touch area like aero bar bullhorns? i have a set of bars with alloy bullhorns, but tape doesn’t work particularly well on the shape, and I want to find some coating that will be grippy and durable.
I’ve tried the spray stuff, using about 6 coats, and it lasted one ride.
not sure, but doubt it’ll be any better than the spray. have you looked into MTB grips that you can cut, or maybe some large OD rubber heat shrink tubing?
Dip is best. I use it for tool handles all the time. The trick is to scuff the area up before applying.
As above, dip is used for tool handles all the time and should work. Also consider silicone rescue tape. It’s stretchy, self-fusing, and inexpensive. I use it for my bullhorns and extensions and it works great.
For heatshrink tubing, be careful which kind you get as many formulations contain heavy metals and are not meant for long term skin contact (I used to manage a heat shrink tubing product line for one of the world’s largest producers, FWIW).

I thought about this as well. Sometimes sold as “plumbing repair tape”. I’ve used it a few times and I’ve been pretty impressed with it, although never on handlebars.
I use ESI mountainbike grips on both the extensions and handlebars. They have quite some stretch and go quite far over the handlebars such that I can grip them with my whole hand.
