I’ve heard the occupy people may try to interrupt the NYc marathon. How tight is security for this race.
The course itself doesn’t go near the site of the OWS protest but if they decide to try disrupt the marathon you can be sure that NYPD will be on top of it immediately. The course itself is well barricaded. Also, the NYC marathon brings a huge amount of money into the city and also puts NYC in the spotlight for the day. Bloomberg is going to make sure that this event goes off without a hitch and i am sure NYPD has already planned to intervene of OWS tries to try anything. OWS is supposed to be about the 99% but at this point it seems that OWS has degenerated into a showcase of the bottom 1%.
It seems that the occupy movement has become more disruptive as of late. Look at them shutting down the port in Oakland. How hard is it to just go into central park and occupy it? Serious question.
Seems like the NYC marathon is a great public venue for the OWS to get some TV time.
Why would they add open water swimming to the NY marathon?

I heard that the pace car has been replaced by a parade of snow plow trucks that are instructed to mow down anyone dumb enough to hop the barricade.

If it happens, it will be further evidence that they have no idea what or why they are protesting. How exactly would disrupting the marathon justify their “cause”? BTW, I’m running on Sunday.

Yeah, that’s what I was going for, there. I was thinking about a nice, shiny cow catcher at the front, but they’re a bit smaller than plow blades and have a tendency to get messy.

I’m not worried about a bunch of pot smoking slackers i’m running with my pet honey badger . He’ll clear the path for me.

I think the equivalent would be a rickshaw or pedicab.

The money part though. It’s like some big organization that is shutting down a city affecting the ability of the 99% to move around the city freely and enjoy the park and the trails, while rich blowhards who spent money on coaches, on athletic gear, hotels and air fare run around the city littering it with their Gu and gels and cups, etc.
Do you think think the government and big business just might get that rumor started and put people on the inside to do it ? The media would love it and they ARE big business also.
