A few years ago Lance resisted wearing the Yellow jersey after Dave Z lost it in a crash during the TTT. Does this situation put Contador in a similar boat? Also since he also has the white jersey and Soler is #2 in that but also in the polka dot which one does he wear, white or polka dot? If Soler decides to wear white then the number two mtns guy gets the polka dot… oh yeah he just got fired. So we are down to the number three on either the young rider or mountains competitions for the jerseys. And you guys are complaining that its not worth watching anymore ![]()
I think the objection to taking it from a crash vs. fired for violating rules is pretty clear. I’d be disappointed if he even considers not wearing it.
The mountain vs young rider is more interesting. I don’t know but I’m guessing mountain. He is actually the leader in that vs. a roll down in young rider. Normally I’d say young rider cause it’s basically GC but age limited instead of specialized points. We’ll see.
which has more pay out white or polka dot?
I think I read somewhere that the white, green and Polka DOt were about 25,000 Euros each, and the yellow was 400,000
.
Interesting question. Most likely he’ll be pressured to wear it, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him not in yellow during the stage, and presuming he’s still in front after to then put it on.
Good question. I would suggest that given the circumstances surrounding Rasmussen’s departure from the race that Contador *will *done the maillot juane tomorrow.
As other posters have correctly pointed out, Contador’s inheritance (sp) of the jersey is not necessarily based on an accident, but on what may be a willful act on the part of Rasmussen. As such, Contador is the rightful man to wear the jersey.
Hey Tour Lore Gods!
Has the white jersey ever won the whole thing? White to yellow in the same race?
I believe so, but I cannot conjur the name of the rider who did it.

1997 Jan Ullrich
Though it’s only been best young rider since the mid-70s. Prior it was an aggregate of best overall, points, mts.)

Does Contador have a shot at Yellow, White and Polka Dot? Everything is so screwed up after today’s debacle.
I believe he has to wear the yellow. As I recall the Tour made Lance wear the yellow even though he did not want to. I thought they made him put it on sometime during the stage, although my memory might be failing me.
It looks like it’s as rare as a first timer winning Hawaii…Only one I remember is Luc Van Leirde… And he set the record that still stands today…I suppose the first winners were rookies too, but modern times… He’s a pretty good looking guy, ha Cathy???(-;
Not as good lookin’ as you Monty!
Eddy Mercx won yellow, polka dot and green in the same year. 1969. If the white jersey award had existed, he would have won that too, he was 24 at the time.
A clean sweep. What a STUD.
Hmmm. That I don’t know. I thought the odd looking fellow with the difficult to remember name nailed the polka-dot jersey today.
He will. After the race.
You are correct sir…unless???
I am pretty sure that Laurent Fignon was best young rider and overall GC winner in the 82/83 range.
“He will. After the race.”
You may be right. In Lances’ case he was actually awarded the yellow that day then after looking at the coverage and seeing that he got it because Dave Z crashed he refused to wear it. He did in fact start the next day in regular team kit but by the end of the neutral zone was back in the yellow. Contador has not been awarded the yellow yet. But the actual standings may not reflect his lead until Rasmussen fails to start and finish tomorrows stage. So will tomorrow’s stage be ridden without a yellow jersey wearer?

Correct! 1983
