Will Big Papi return to daytime television?

because I’m thinking he might be able to revive his role as Florida Evans on Good Times…

I’ve heard that one a few times since he’s been here, still always good for a chuckle though.

The honeymoon for him could be nearing the end as once again he got off to a horrible start (although he has been hitting better the past week or so), looking overmatched at times even against weaker pitching to the point that they have been sitting him down against lefties altogether, something that was unthinkable a few years back. Some of the beat writers/media who cover the Sox have wondered out loud if he is done, and he’s been booed at Fenway (something else that was unthinkable a few years back). He’s lashed out at the media, blaming them for his problems at the plate. Last week, Howard Bryant had an excellent piece on espn.com outlining the steps that the Sox front office took to protect him last year when his name was mentioned for testing positive for PED’s a few years back, even quoting Sox owner John Henry as saying “he’s one of us”. Despite the backing Papi has from the team, he has been critical of Terry Francona of late for pinch-hitting for him or not penciling his name in the lineup everyday, saying that he doesn’t appreciate the way he’s been treated after all he has done in the past. Sox hold an option on him for next season for close to $12m but I’d be surprised if it gets picked up. It is sad to see it end this way but he’s not the first superstar to struggle with the fact the skills that once made him great have vanished to the point where he is just another guy in the lineup.
