Wildflower virgin flying into LAX

I’ve done the forum search and read all the good advice on Wildflower with regards to what to bring, etc, but I am wondering if anyone has flown into LA, picked up an RV and done the drive that way. Google Maps says 4:12 on the drive up. All the other posts have recommended SFO or OAK.

Any other tips for the RV when we get to Lake San Antonio? This will be my first time at Wildflower, I’m signed up for the Long Course.

you can add a couple hours to that time in a rv. i live about half hour south of la and drive an rv every year. the fastest i have made it in is 6.5 hours (no traffic). this is also heavily dependent upon what time you are leaving. getting out of la could take 1.5 hours in iteself. as far as tips. if you are not there by tues you will not get a hookup. try and park under a tree. shade is a premium there. bring lots of water and prepare to have fun.

It’s stupidly expensive I’m sure but you can fly into Fresno Yosemite Intl. (FYI or FAT depending on search engine) and you’re only about 1:45 away from Paso Robles and then another half hour or so to the campsites.

You can google his name but there’s an RV dealer here in town (Dan Gamel RV) who rents RV’s. It’s worth looking into.

Take 101 not I5. Its a much nicer drive and you’ll even get to see lots of wildflowers.

For you, I suggest riding up from LAX, or better yet, just roll from Boulder. The extra training will be good for you. And RV’s are over-rated just bring a garbage bag and sleep in the transition area. Come on man, you CO guys are so pamered, RV’s, and Flying; SERIOUSLY.

PS. Why LAX? Fly into San Jose with me.

Your are right, Jimmy. I should sack up and ride from the shop. It’s only 1181 miles, if I banged out about 60 miles a day on average, I’d be there in less than 3 weeks. Wanna join?

San Jose Airport, eh? What sort of arrangements do you have at this point?

ditto San Jose
.

SLO is also an option. I think America West flies there. Closer than SJO.

I would recommend San Jose or Oakland instead of LA. Also consider renting a Van and camping equipment at REI instead of getting an RV. You just don’t need that much luxury.

I have done Wildflower 15 times. I normally camp in my Landrover or in a tent. It is great.
