optimal tapers do not decrease intensity. Instead reduce total volume, keep your frequency and intensity up. So instead of riding 4 times this week for a total of 6hrs, ride 4 times this week for a total of say 2 hrs but include some intensity in each ride. Your rides/runs don’t have to be long.
