Has anyone here stayed off site for Wildflower? I’ve always wanted to do this race for the Woodstock atmosphere but a friend has already secured a unit off site (on a lake 15 miles away) I haven’t signed up yet so I’m looking for some ST opinions.
To be honest the unit by the lake will be easier logistically and financially as 4 of us will be splitting lodgings and rental car from SFO, not too mention it’ll be nice to sleep in a bed rather than a tent.
PM desertdude…he rented a house that I stayed at in 2007. From there to race start was ~ 30 min warmup ride. Nice spot on Lake Nacxxxxxx (can’t remember the full name).

I’ve already got a place lined up on a lake somewhere, apparently it’s 15miles away…a bit much for a warm-up ride.

That would be Lake Naciemento, and you might just want to consider riding to the start, or get a ride and a drop off. Once you finish the race, the road back to your place will be closed to car traffic for awhile, so if you wanted to go back and shower and clean up before the awards, you would be stuck. If you just plan on staying most of the day, no problem, just drive in. If you are skipping the awards and want to get back quickly, then plan to ride your bike back. Just be ready to take it slow, it is not flat back to your place…
I would just plan on hanging out the day, it is usually really hot and sunny, so some after race burritos and beer kill the time nicely until the road opens…
Yep, beers, burritos and bull-shitting post-race sound good. Looks like this trip may be a go!
