With the Calif. TTT canceled, that may free up enough funds for me to do Wildflower 1/2 in a few weeks. Wondering if I brought my wife and two kids (1 and 5) if there is anything fun for them to do while I’m racing Saturday, or would it just be a nightmare for my wife trying to keep them entertained?
Also, how are the bathrooms/showers at the campgrounds (assuming we only camp 1 or 2 nights)? Is it super-crowded? Just trying to figure out if they would have fun.
I havnt done WF in about 4 years and went with just the boys when I did it and think having kids would be no-go for me. As i recall the showers had standing water, über crowded unlike anything I have ever seen at a camp ground. I asked my wife if she wanted to go and get a RV that is self sufficient and I think that’s the only way I’d take them.
It depends if they can live without their Wii, tv, and whatever electronic gadgets they play with…It is the great outdoors, and as a kid I loved it. Motorhome is the way to go though, then it doesnt matter what the bathroom/shower situation is. Cooking hot dogs on a stick, making smores by the fire, swimming in the lake, throwing rocks and not getting yelled at, running around with no traffic, you would like to think kids still enjoy all that stuff…And there is the expo/food court with the live bands playing most of the day. I think there are sand pits and some sort of kid play areas there too, probably just the right factor of cool for your kids ages…

Your 5 year old would probably love it. Plenty of kids there same age to play with. The younger one wouldn’t notice but taking care of the little one wouldn’t be any different than say going to Yellowstone and camping.
You can usually rent houses across the street at Lake Nacimiento if you want to be more comfy.
Thanks Monty. Honestly, my 1 1/2 year old son basically requires constant monitoring to make sure he doesn’t run off or climb on something he shouldn’t. He’s pretty typical for his age. My 5 1/2 year old daughter spends her days playing outside in our cul-de-sac with her little friends, so she’d just miss her little friends. Probably better off going solo if I can do the race. Too much work for my wife.
Not in the budget. It’s camping or nothing. Thanks for the info though…I’m pretty sure all the rentals would have sold out MONTHS ago, don’t you think?
