I’ve been wearing the Shimano TR-01 shoe and have been experiencing problems with numbness in the front half of my feet. Does anyone know if Shimanos are considered “narrow” in the toe box? Any other tri-shoe suggestions that are wider up front? thanks
I don’t know anything about the Shimanos but I’m a 4E and have been very happy with the DMT R3 Triathlon.
Shimano has somewhat of a narrow toe box. I bought a pair of the TR-01s but found them to be too narrow so I returned them. I tried them on the trainer for a short period of time and they were cramping my toes. I bought a pair of Carnac TRS6 and they are much wider in the toebox. They are very comfortable. I later read that indeed Carnac has a reputation for having a wider toebox. I also tried on the Sidi tri shoes and found these to be even more narrow than the Shimano. Carnac is a bit pricier but I don’t mind paying the extra for the comfort.
I came across this using the search feature.
A couple weekends ago I did a Du and jacked up my right foot. I hadn’t been running and thought I must have bruised it pretty bad on the outside middle part. Then no bruise showed up so I thought maybe I fractured something. Now today, after getting a bug bite on my ass last night, I had to do my whole ride standing up and it became pretty clear that my Nike Poggio’s were probably too narrow for my feet. After the ride I laid my foot on the bottom and my foot is about half an inch wider than the carbon fiber sole from my midffot up to the beginning of the toes. Not good, now I’m thinking this may be my problem and it’s not a stress fracture afterall, hopefully. Anybody here have any experience with the Poggio’s and Carnac’s that could lend some advice? I don’t want to go to the LBS and spend $50 more than online, and I don’t want to go to the LBS just to find the right size and then jet off to the internet and order them. Maybe I’ll just have to pay the premium?
Try the link below to Louis Garneau web site.
I don’t own these… yet… But, I saw an athlete with these shoes on at a race this summer. The toe box was visibly bigger than my Shimanos. However, after just spending $150 bucks on these Shimanos, I can’t get the Louis Garneaus until next season. I recall the athlete that had these saying they were in the $100 range.
I also use the DMT tri shoe. I am a DD width and ca’t use anything but these. They are great! Very happy!
