Why this forum DOES work!

A few posters over the last months “complained” about the forums’ content and it not being the “same” anymore. I just saw another example this week WHY this forum works for those prepared to post and help others!
Earlier this week I posted a “cry” for help with my Minoura behind the seat 2 bottle cage – vibrating the bolts loose while riding. I’ve built my own bikes and maintained my own bikes and kit for over 15 years now, so I thought even though I might try a few things, lets ask our ST members…

I received 5 replies on the post. Every one experienced the same problem and everyone had their own solution to the problem. One poster mentioned putting some electrical tape one the rails to minimize slippage – now what a good idea! So the end results was last night I used a combination of all 5 posters ideas, used electrical tape around the rails, inserted the bolts from the opposite side, used washers and used nylon threaded lock nuts to secure the bolts. Now I want to see this sucker coming loose again!

Anyway, guess what I’m saying is… this forum is great! Never not post when you have a solution, idea or even just moral support, everyone comes up with unique ideas, even Mr Tibbs sometimes (just sometimes).

I recently joined the Transitions Trichat forum. This is an Australian site. I joined to find out about some Tasmanian races, as my girlfriend is enrolled in a phd program there, and I might as well race when I go down to visit. The site is like this one but at the same time very different. A lot of the posts are OT those that aren’t seem to wander that way after a bit. Don’t get me wrong I know there are people who follow both forums, and Trichat has has its triathlon for a focus. But has it was explained to me when I joined, “If you want to know the aerodynamic properties of competeing valve stems log on to Slowtwitch”, “If you want to know what pub to go to post race log into Trichat”.

As far as this board “changing” a bit a believe this to be a temporary thing. I’ve seen this happen on email lists before we get a bit OT for a month and then something (like the North American racing season starting) refocuses everyone. And we are fine till we get bored again.

Sorry i was going to post but forgot, your bolts might keep coming loose because the holder is made from thin material and as you tighten the bolts you bend the mount, the poster who said he made a new(thicker?) backing plate might have the best answer, even though you make a new backing plate you might still have this problem, because of the main bracket, you have a lot of weight hanging of that bracket.good luck with your modifications,
.

I’m a long time lurker who finally decided to register. I have gotten loads of useful information from the forum over the years. I have enjoyed the past several weeks. Feeling inspired to contribute. Alas I don’t have any other tips about the Minoura bottle rack.

I agree. We make this show run.

One little item that I have found invaluable when maintaining my bikes…loctite. Get the blue.
