Why the ride is "talked"

when Clas Bjorling had a 2:42 run that beated the old course record?

maybe its because Bjorling runs with a cheap $100 shoes (or less).

and Cameron? i think that he won the race but thats not very interesting, is ride was nothing special right?

Ok, I’ll bite.

What shoes was Baron wearing? Any special lacing techniques? Did he tape the vents for better aerodynamics?

Sergio,

IMO, the only thing more boring than running is talking about it. Bikes are cool to talk about. Running shoes aren’t.

They’re both boring … talking about getting faster isn’t.

Bike this, bike that … preferences being disguised as facts. Happens in all sports. More talk about how to get faster on whatever bike you ride is what is important.

I’d bet if I was bored enough and went through all the pages here there’d be more questions/discussions about wetsuits than there are about “swimming faster”. Wetsuits would be an important discussion if everyone didn’t wear basically the same one.

More talk about progress, less talk about what to spend money on. I’m getting ornery again, darnit.

Don´t get me wrong, i love bikes, cycling etc. But its sad to see that the hero of the day was Bjorn (with all my respect) and the “villain” of the day was in fact Bjorling (with that blistering run) and Brown (with tactics).

I´m sure that both Bjorling an Brown could chase Bjorn if they wanted to…would they put a decent run after? i don´t think so… now they are the “villains”.

It was sad to arrive to slow forum and see that there was not a single treat on the winner or the run record but there was about 3-4 treat about bjorns bike, bjorns position, bjorn ride, bjorn the hero, bjorns chainring, bjorns neck, etc.

just a thought

How many posts about Foster’s swim? What does a doughnut look like again?

O

I don’t think that anyone meant to discredit the other efforts. The discussions of Bjorn’s possition started before the race and quite honestly I think people like seeing someone that is willing to risk it all by going hard early rather than sitting back and waiting.

Bjorn’s tactics might not have been the best but think about this…what if he would have only averaged 23 MPH and come off the bike with a 12 minute lead? Would have he been able to hold them off?

From what I understand, Bjorn is only 24 - I bet he is still figuring out his “game.”

I’m a runner and like seeing runners win, but I hate watching everyone hold out until the end. I know it’s smart but it’s not fun to watch

I don’t think Bjorling was seen as the “villain” of the day. Where did you get that from? As he should have he got a lot of credit for that run. I think we all can agree that the run is the most important aspect of the Ironman so if you run like that people are gonna be impressed. You should have seen the crowd that mobbed him for autographs and photos after the awards. He can swim better too so it’ll be interesting to see what he can do when he gets that togheter in a race.

As for me I’m just doing the race according to my strenghts and I just didn’t hold up during the whole race. I get a lot of critique for racing the way I do too and while I’m not proud of my run split 3rd overall isn’t too bad. Had I tried to ride 15min slower I wouldn’t have got 3rd, it’s as simple as that.

Bjorn, you had an awesome race, even more so considering it was your first Ironman finish. Keep on the good work and racing your heart out and you might find yourself higher on the podium.

“I get a lot of critique for racing the way I do too…”

I AM a big fan of the way you race, so consider this praise for your style. I’m not particularly good at any of the 3 disciplines, but I always race as hard as I can on the bike. There’s something honest and pure about throwing tactics to the wind and just going hard.

As for your run split, there are a lot of people who would be very happy to run as well as you did Saturday. It’s all relative…

“I get a lot of critique”

Bjorn,

Realize that there is a big difference between critique and criticism. It’s interesting to critique your riding position because it’s “outside of the box”. Being a bit different is what makes it so interesting.

You’re only 24 yrs old and have a great future with this sport in front of you. We’ll be pulling for you.

Maybe I’ll change my handle from “cerveloguy” to “Bjornfan”.
