Why the f*** does getting back on the bike on a trainer have to be so friggin' hard?

I have gotten back on the bike after a period of time. Two observations:

  1. you should have your bars higher than when you were in shape

  2. riding on a trainer is sooooooooooo boring. All of you who live in non-temperate zones (and can thusly ride outdoors year-round) are very, very lucky.

Penance is supposed to be hard!

Pennance for injury?

Just bustin’ your chops…

I’m with you! I HATE riding my trainer I’m good for about 45 minutes max and that;s pushing it.

My Name Is Earl, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs… and a TiVo.

Yeah, I can stay on more than an hour if either:

a) super-motivated

b) TV is really good and I am not going numb
.

Sorry man, I did not know! I’ve been abscent a lot this year and the tone has changed some so been invested in other things. What happened?

No worries.

Just back pain, plantar fasciatis, nasty shoulders, etc. etc.

Yeah, I have noticed a bit of tone change, as well. I am going to be a positive guy here.

TiVo.

Enough said.

Rollers add variety to the boredom.

Hey bunnyman. What has been the best thing for your plantar fasciatis. I am still struggling with it a bike. I should probably stretch more.

So far good orthotics and anti-inflammatories have been my secret.

Roger. It’s always something.

Rode 50 mins watching the Biggest Looser tonight. Some pretty amazing stories of people getting their health turned around. TdF videos help.

I am trying to be super-motivated once again because I love being a racer. I just hope I can keep myself uninjured.

KISS Konfidential helps me stay on the treadmill running.

I had the same problem, for me TV doesn’t quite cut it as I am not a TV person in general (I don’t normally watch). The only thing that works for me is Trance Music. What I love to listen to is Nyana CDs by DJ Tiesto. I actually rode my trainer for 2:30 non stop on Monday and all I did was listening to those CDs.
Interestingly enough, I don’t normally listen to trance music either, only during trainer workouts.

I knew moving to Arizona at 4500ft would be tougher in the winter then Florida. We see temps in the 40-s and 50’s…for me thats way too cold. SO… after my wife saw the Electronics Show in Japan she made me buy a Fortius Virtual Reality Trainer. I can’t wait each day to get on and ride for up to 2 hours. This thing is a total blast. Racing against others all over the world and doing very famous rides is great. This thing has HR, cadence, Watts, speed, wind, downhills (brake unit pushes the rear wheel), uphills…it may as well be real. The graphics as so real on the Real Life Videos that I flip-off the cars and wave at other cyclists on the video, then look around and make sure my wife didn’t see that : )

A buddy of mine did a six hour trainer ride with no music, no tv, nothing. Stared at his handlebars for 6 freakin hours. Said it prepared him for the mental toughness of an IM. that’s nuts in my book.

I’ve gone as long as 3 hrs with a Coach Troy video and my iPod. I was a hurtin puppy by the end though.

My XMAS present to myself last year was a flat screen TV/DVD combo , stereo receiver and Sony bookcase speakers, all on sale last year at Circuity City total cost under $400.00. I now have about 10 concert DVD’s- Stones, Springsteen, Sting, U2, John Fogarty, Cheryl Crow, Eagles, Pearl Jam…etc. Put one of these on in the garage, crank up the sound, climb on the trainer and an hour goes by before you know it. I do need to find more DVD’s I have watched them a few times. I can’t imagine riding the trainer without it.

Mark

Two words…Vivid DVD’s. LOL. Just kidding.

cure for numbness?

funny.
