For me it has to do with training time. I’m going to have to spend a more time training for hilly 12 hour IMSG than a 10hr IMAZ.
For me it is only the time of the year. I live in the mountains and we have snow until march/april. I tried training for an early IM one year (Arizona 2005) and that didn´t go too well.
Everything else I absolutely love about that race.
Axel
I think the core: Canada, Lake Placid, Florida, and Wisconsin are just stronger.
CdA and Arizona are close.
Louisville was the newbie, but now that Cozumel and St. George have come along it looks downright veteran.
Personally I have done LP, FL, CdA, Cozumel, and spring AZ.
Louisville is my next in 2011 based on schedule and location. Canada and St. George are more difficult locations and Wisconsin is always a football home game and I want to stay married.
I signed back up before I did the race.
So mostly I think the majority of people want to finish a IM set a PR and talk times. You can’t control wind temperatures or anything like that. Any IM has a chance of high wind extreme heat or cold , So those who hold that against a race are looking for an excuse . I wan’t to push my body and mind just like the rest of those who look forward to this race . One day this too will have a huge following of folks wanting to do a harder IM .

Then they should go do Silverman or Norseman. ![]()
