I was just thinking about that yesterday, and what the hell was the deal with that Olsen twin?
I do have quite a bit of disdain for Valverde and the rest of the dopers (too many to list!) However, I particularly dislike Armstrong because he has built an empire by hiding his fraud behind ‘cancer awareness’. To me, this is a step beyond the other cheaters. Lance is portrayed as being the greatest human to ever walk the earth, it makes me sick to think it was done fraudulently.
I find it irritating that he shoots his mouth off about being clean. Unlike many of the others (Levi, Hincapie) who are just keeping their mouth’s shut.
Finally, Lance has tried to bully those who speak out against doping. Filippo Simeoni being the best example.
That is why i am more vocal about Lance than the others.
I can’t work out the hate either but then again this is a society that treats murderers and ex-cons like celebrities but slams down a guy who may or may not have used drugs in sport.Shows how fucked up we are these days.
If he is found gulty then he is guilty but until then he isn’t.
As to his arrogant/asshole character,there are a lot of people who post here that come off as arrogant assholes who, in real life are probrably decent people.

The things he has done off the bike are as remarkable as the things he has done on.
I would like to see him do a cancer tour. Like all the group rides we have he could schedule a day where they close the roads and you can ride “with” Lance. Of course he would be protected and in front so you wouldn’t really ride with him, but you could be in the peleton. They could sell LA shirts and have the yellow Livestrong band around the arm. The money would go to cancer.
Can you imagine how much money he could make? A ride scheduled every weekend or so. Thousands upon thousands of riders would gather to donate to cancer research.

I did the one in Austin a few years ago and it was great.I got to ride with to the USPS guys but was most impressed with the free pizza and beer afterwards.

I think that it is very hard to come out looking like a “good guy” that everyone likes under intense scrutiny. Everyone is human and has weaknesses, makes mistakes, and every statement can be judged a thousand different ways. Many people are judging him based on actions that they assume he has committed. Since most of us have never had the chance to win the Tour de France or defend an empire, and I suspect many people would act the same way if they were in his position. It is easy to say what you would or wouldn’t do if you have never been confronted with the EXACT circumstances. The sport will never be clean until the governing bodies enact zero tolerance along with frequent testing. Even that may not be enough, the stakes are too high.

Yup, pretty much why I don’t celebrate xmas or watch cycling.
It is silly looking at individual experiences forming a picture of the whole character.
You could also easily say that one’s whole character could easily be defined by the sum of individual experiences, but I know what you’re saying.
