That's along the lines of what I'm thinking, and they're in the driver's seat right now. Might be "bad" because there is an automatic conflict with pubs; dem voters fall mostly on the less educated side, with a big % of the highest educated thrown in. These "elite" can easily lead the less educated dem sheeple, but pubs, who draw mostly from the middle of the education continuum, are not as easily led, and can think for themselves. The liberal elite have nothing but disdain for these less educated folks who feel they can, and should, think for themselves, and the pubs have no love for the constant condescending clap-trap that the liberal elites endeavor to foist on them.

So being smarter is bad? Somehow people have confused “elite” and “elitist”. Being an elitist is bad, it is the sort of thing that used to be thought to happen when wealthy people thought that by virtue of having more money they are inherently better people. Kind of like Scientology teaching that entertainers have a better class of thetan (or whatever nonsense they state).
Now, when someone actually knows things and tries to correct people when they are flat-out wrong you are somehow elitist.
