Why I live in the Bay Area

Beacause while most of you on Dec 15 are freezing your buns off I go out and play on the trails traveling along as the crow flys

.

After which you return to your $500k 1 bdr apartment   :), dodging cell-phone implanted, reckless drivers.

I live here too, for the time being…

I live here too, for the time being…

naw 3 bedroom 2 bath 2200 sq ft house w seperate 2 car garage on 1.6 acres in the mountains 20 minutes from town, no traffic no noise

20 mins from town? WHICH town? Sure isn’t SF. And/or is sure isn’t $500K.

I was raised in Los Gatos and now live on the cusp, right off Quito and Cox.

I was able to squeeze in a 7miler today at lunch in hills just like that in the Marin Headlands. Saw the ocean, all kinds of wildlife, and not another person on the trails. Huge surf, beautiful day and 10minutes from the city. Ran in shorts and a tee shirt. Sure, I have to have 2 roomates to afford housing and work 60 hrs a week but you couldn’t drag me out of here…(well maybe New Zealand). Bay Area is an incredible place.

Surprisingly, the North Bay is pretty nice. I feel safer on the China Camp loop through San Rafael with 2 lanes of traffic on either side of me heading toward freeway onramps than in the bike lane through an equivalent distance in Del Mar down in Southern California. Most drivers in the Bay Area seem to have sense enough to not dive past a cyclist on the road if they’re not confident it can be done safely.

California sure is nice this time of year, especially compared to the rest of the country. For me today, a 95 mile ride, 6000 feet of climbing, and best of all, did it wearing a short sleeve bike jersey and never got cold.

PS. if you live in SoCal and ride the coast, you’re missing the best riding, go inland!!

What is it about “bay area” people that they constantly have to tell you how wonderfull the “bay area” is? Been there. Wasn’t impressed. Overcrowded, way too expensive real estate, and annoying people like Eric.

Where I live 500k gets you a mansion on the lake in beautiful wine country 10 mins from work and 10 mins from skiing beautiful fall foilage and some of the best road riding anywhere with NO TRAFFIC but you don’t hear me bragging about it.

unreal. that picture looks so ugly.it looks like a big mound of sand. everything ive seen in cali. looks like its gonna catch on fire(dry brush) not enough tree’s…maybe except lake tahoe.id prefer some green woods.

I agree. I did a 6 hour ride from fairfax to occidental and back along the coast. Sunny and about 60 degrees.

That’s how I felt when I moved to CA from the East Coast. I love trees and miss them. But the hills out here grow on you. I love the desert now too.

I think you just did!!

It seems to me that all Eric was trying to do was to express his appreciation for his good fortune and his surroundings.

Whether you like the Bay Area or your house on the lake, they both beat the East Coast scene of 5:30 am bike rides in the pitch black in 35 degrees, running on treadmills because there is too much snow on the ground and then getting on the train to commute to your job!!! Sure, the money in NYC is great, but you guys have no real idea what expensive real estate is until you tried to buy in NYC or it’s suburbs. I recently changed jobs and was looking hard at the Bay Area, but for reasons I still don’t fully understand, stayed here.

Anyone need a good lawyer out there?!?!?!?!?!?!

That looks like Dipsea in the background???

I lost pretty much all of 2004 after a bad spill training for Dipsea…right at the end of the trail I was looking up for traffic as I approached Highway 1 when I kicked a rock went airborne and crashed hard. I shattered my big toe and it still hasn’t healed 7 months later.

Nice place Eric…Mill Valley?

Bay Area? Are you kidding? I spent my first 28 years up there. Believe me, it’s no San Diego.

I can remember when I first moved down here they guy from Sprint Wireless tried to sell me on this:

“we also have a weather service. I take a look at it first thing in the morning to determine how to dress for the day.”

And I said, “uh, not sure if you checked my account, but I live in San Diego. I can tell you what it’s going to be today. 75 degrees. It’s 75 degrees 300 days a year.”

Gotta love it.

This may be a shock to some of you but some of us actually like the seasons. A little variety. Mountain biking when the leaves are changing. Some skiing, snowshoeing, skating. Sledding with the kids. Sunny and 75 is great but even that can get monotonous.

Just so you know, real estate isn’t “any better” here in San Diego!! It sucks. I missed the window and will probably never be able to buy in SD - at least while I’m single and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. The only way I could afford something I want to live in is to win the lottery.
