He will be well rested and the other men who would challenge him will be have heavy legs from Kona - Terenzo, Craig and Andy. I’ll bet a Ice Cold Gatorade on it. Z
PS - His toughest competition will come from guys not in Kona - Chris Legh and Richie Cunningham.
Very good point - Tim will also be in top form as he will not be in Kona -
Tim will be right in the mix on the swim and bike, but will he have the foot speed to stay with the top runners? I would have liked to see him go head to head with Andy at Steelhead this year. He decided to go win IM 70.3 Calgary instead.
Agreed would be nice to see SQW on the line. Is Rasmus Henning going to make it to the line in Kona or will he show up at CW…nice job by Chris Legh in Georgia too…not that shabby for a guy written off.
Bump…this thread is getting less coverage than the Finman thread, then again, we know that Finman is more of a triathlon celebrity than Bennet, SQW and Matty Reed combined. They should let these big boys use fins at CW as a tribute to our man Frank Cardia…
My money is on Matt Reed. I’ll be pulling for Bennett though. Super nice guy. He must have talked to a couple hunderd people at Augusta. He and Laura both.
Dev - that is one reason i started this thread - after viewing the finman video - I threw up a little in my mouth.
Matty Reed will also be one to watch, but again if it comes down to the run, my money is on Greg! The best thing about IM 70.3 is seeing all the ITU and Olympic guys and gals come up to this distance. Makes for some great racing!
And because if he does in Clearwater like he did at Augusta 70.3, he will be enjoying the silky smooth and superfast aerodynamic stylings of a Hed3 clincher. As one of the highest paid athletes in the sport he could afford to run any wheelset. The photo in the main page shows a Hed3 clincher…the fastest wheel in the world!!
Whatever it is, regardless of the braking surface/rim, it’s a Hed3.
It reminds me of a Rolex ad I heard on the radio the other day (paraphrasing):
**“Master Cellist Yo-Yo Ma (conductor of the LA Philharmonic…or some shit like that) could choose any watch he wants. Instead, he relies on the perfection and accurate Swiss timing of the Rolex Date-Just” **
Fuckin’ “A” Bro, Right? That’s an impressive adertisement!!
Check This Out:
“The Number one prize winning/purse snatching triathlete in the world, Greg Bennett, could race on any wheel he chooses. Instead, he relies on the silky smooth aerodynamic stylings and speedy perfection of the Hed3 clincher”
Yeah, I think CW is shaping up to be really exciting…still think that WTC needs to put up more prize money to really draw out more of the ITU studs, but should be a really interesting race on both the men’s and women’s side.
By the way, is the water there in November warm enough for sleeveless wetsuit?
I’ll take Potts winning the double this year if he shows up at both. Kona and Clearwater. He’s also been resting and has had to many very close 2’nd’s this year.
If Andy takes the double this year that would be epic - not sure anyone could pull that off. Andy and Craig might be the only two men that might be able to win Kona and Clearwater. Z
At that level, I don’t think anyone can pull off a Kona+CW double 5 weekends apart. Perhaps some age grouper can do it, but at the pro level, they have to dig so deep to put out that type of power and footspeed, that being podium competitive is pretty tough.
Let’s also keep in mind that the kona racers are winding down training for 2 weeks into kona and 2 weeks after…that’s 1 month lost to the guys training exclusively ITU/Clearwater.
What would be more interesting is guys who can podium at both ITU World’s+Clearwater. This should be very possible.
Tom, thanks for the info on the water temps. I get cold easily, however, I prefer to use sleeveless, on days when water temps are borderline “no wetsuit” (in other words no wetsuit for pros, but wetsuit legal for age groupers)
