Why does my valve extender chew-up my tire pump?

I have a set of 50mm carbon wheels and I have destroyed two pumps by inflating the tubes using the plastic valve extenders with my standard pump.

The pump has a rubber valve that gets torn after only a few uses with the valve extender.

What is the solution for this problem?

What type of extenders do you have? Some extenders with threaded ends (ex. Lezyne’s which are quite sharp) can really chew up press-on pump heads. Smoother ones tend not to be an issue.
