when I’m getting faster? Just did a sprint on Saturday, I was three minutes faster than the previous year, and yet there were a whole lot of people faster than me. Are more (faster)people getting into tri or are they just showing up in bigger numbers at local sprints?
also, anyone know/heard of Russ Jones? 49 yr old guy shows up from Cali, blitzes the course. Ken, there are faster older guys than you! Man, he was moving.

There are plenty of older guys faster than me. Look for results from Steve Pyle, for example. Sheesh.
Russ used to live in this area (Jersey Shore); he was a mailman, I believe. He used to win the Monmouth Sprint Triathlon nearly every year in the late 80s, despite the fact that he used to barely swim to save his life. He moved to California many years ago, but came back to race last year (it’s the Sunday after Labor Day every year). He took third, behind my two training buddies (Brock Butler 59:18, Kevin Parks 1:02:09, Russ Jones 1:04:00. I was 9th at 1:07:01, with a miserable run. In the top 20, there were 2 in their 20s, 7 in their 30s, 10 in their 40s, and one who was 50). Russ used to have a beat-to-hell white Kestrel 200 EMS, as I recall.
Since Kevin beat me at Lighter Than Air Duathlon by “only” 1:51 this year, and I kill him in the water, we might see an interesting race this year. We’re all going to be in the first wave.
