Why did the begging for the SRM thread get deleted?

I thought the thread explored some good points and was a “civil” discussion (at least by Slowtwitch standards).

Mr. Cooke deleted his own post.

He probably asked for it to be deleted. If someone wants something deleted, I see no reason why the forum admins shouldn’t do it for them.

After all this is a board for hobbyists, we are not saving lives or anything here. What is the big deal?

I can understand deleting your own posts; however, other people posted on the thoughts. So eliminating wholesale their thoughts and discussion is a bit much, especially since I feel the thread raised some good points and was a good discussion over professional athletes, equipment, sponsorship, money, etc.

I didn’t see any personal attacks or contravention of the rules of the forum. I am sure the OP didn’t like it because a lot of people were upset with his begging. However, I don’t believe anyone went outside the lines in responding.

“He probably asked for it to be deleted. If someone wants something deleted, I see no reason why the forum admins shouldn’t do it for them.”

So he’s a quiter?

Man, I will try this trick in the future.

your act is tired

…yawn

No reason. I think that kind of sucks.

Seemed a bit odd. The discussion was getting a bit heated with some indirect attacks pointed at Mr Cooke, but compared to some of the threads here in was rather benign.

I agree that it was touching on some important issues: What does Professional mean? What is the value of Professional athlete sponsorship? The discrepency between one end of the Professional endurance athlete spectrum and the other . . . and so on.

If someone wanted to discuss that why not start a thread on what is professional? What benefits does sponsorship actually provide? etc… I do believe many of the posts were starting to attack Matt and that is most likely why it was deleted.

I didn’t read it. Was is actually asking an SRM or was it a sarcastic post?

He actually was asking for donations for a SRM. His apartment caught fire last year and he lost everything. He was hoping people would help him out in order to get him a power meter to get back training.

" your act is tired

…yawn "

that’s really funny comming from you.

What benefits does sponsorship actually provide?

Thats exactly what I was trying to do with my last post on the thread, then it disappeared.

OK probably there has been a lot said. Being A-hole myself, I will keep my silence.

Ok so the “what benefits do sponsors actually provide” thread has been started
.

yeah there was a lot said, I’m not gonna pass judgment on the guy I doubt it was his idea but for those that did attack him that’s their prerogative.

I thought the thread was interesting from that standpoint as well. What do you get if you are sponsored when you aren’t on one of the top TdF teams?

typically on a good Continental Team here in the US riders will get 1 or 2 bikes (a home bike and a travel bike) the travel bike will stay with the truck (usually) and the home bike will stay at home. Most riders will also get 1 TT bike that usually stays in the truck except for TT specialists who will get a home and road TT bike.

obviously they get full kits and will also usually get travel clothing (t-shirts, dress shirts, polos, fleece jackets, hats, etc) and will get some podium shoes on some teams. Most teams provide shoes, optics and helmets, but often riders have their own shoes & optics contracts.

Some bigger teams will provide phones, computers or blackberrys. but i don’t think most domestic teams do.

most teams have pretty strict rules about changing sponsored equipment (bars, stems, etc) but usually allow riders to select their own saddle if needed.

on the SRM side - many pros do own one and use it for training and racing, but most of them have actually bought it themselves.
