Why can't we all get along?

Seriously.

I thought about this while watching Lance and Jan chatting during the stage. I thought… if these two can chat and smile, why we, their fans, have to have these pissing contests about them.

They’re just two humans. With their flaws. Lance is going back to what he was before the cancer, Jan was doing drugs and drunk driving while injured. Human. Not perfect.

So… why can’t we all get along?

Thank you, Rodney King…

It seems we can’t get along, because there are some people who feel they need to stir up trouble and piss people off for one reason or another. This week, it’s because somebody’s favorite is destroying the field at the TdF, and somebody else’s favorite(s) has had a less than stellar performance.

Why do we feel the need to attack each other here over this stuff? Who knows? All I know is that when someone attacks me, my first reaction is to fight back. Eventually, I let it go.

I totally agree that all the personal attacks should cease.

Bump

It is working!

Wonder how long it will hold…

… and… Time! How long was that? Looks like the luvin’ is over:

I think one problem is when some people take LA’s absolutely incredible athletic accomplishments and try to use them to claim he’s a great guy outside of biking. Maybe he is maybe he isn’t. One thread was something like “who doesn’t love Lance?” I don’t love him. I look up to him as the incredible athlete that he is but that’s where it ends. For instance, Mike Tyson used to rule the boxing world but I never looked up to him as a person. The same goes for many other incredible professional athletes. I sure hate it though when people on this forum start calling each other names and crap like that. That’s just childish.

Aw c’mon!! The original poster in that thread said absolutely nothing about “loving Lance” meaning you have to love him both in and out of the sport. That was interjected by someone else providing the reason the don’t “love” Lance.

Yep I agree.

steveperx,

I’m sure you have noticed it is always easier to criticize others rather than to criticize one’s self or to accept the criticism of others. Likewise it is much easier to throw stones at those who have risen to the top, usually because they were better or worked harder, than to find fault with one’s self.

Lance is a great example. He works and trains harder than anyone else. He employs the latest technology and science regarding training. Tactically, he is smarter than almost ,if not all, of his competition. He is not afraid to be tested for drugs. He knows there won’t be any found. Not because he is one up on the testing, but because he doesn’t use illegal performance enhancing drugs. Yet there are a whole slew of people that insist that the only way he could be so successful is if he is using drugs.

In a sense, it is the penalty of success or achievement. Or being the victim of someone succumbing to one of the seven deadly sins.

Why can’t we all get along?

Because it is boring.

People have different values, opinions and attitudes. Some of which are emotive. If everyone just agrees this forum will be dead.

SAC you are one unique individual my friend. I find it intriguing that on one hand you have absolutely no problem making snide comments about a persons position when they post a pic…or even sometimes picking apart anothers view on a training principle…because neither are the way you think they should be. Then you come up with a post like this and confuse the hell out of me
Granted you do have a great deal of knowledge in the sport and seem to very respected for your coaching abilities so some of what you say definitely has merit. And to that end I agree with what you say…my problem (and really as long as it’s me having the problem it really is my problem) with your posts is in the delivery. You often carry a very belittling tone and sometimes come across as arrogant. I am afraid, for my own sake anyway, that I don’t think you and I would be able to get along until either A)I accept the fact that you are just a smartasscoach and that’s the way it will always be or B)you can show me (and possibly others that might feel the same way as well) that you are capable of making a point without doing so in a mean way. I salute you and all that you are capable of as far as personal performance and coaching ability goes but try and go easier on the delivery please.

Screw you
.

Martin Luther King said, “I have a dream…”

BB King sang, “The Thrill is Gone”

Rodney King said, “Can’t we all just get along?”

Sort of sums up the forum in some ways, doesn’t it?

The question is, where do we go from here? I hope it won’t be like the Kingsley Brothers that sang, “Get Along There Little Dogey”, and we’ll just clean it up and everyone will feel like a King and/or Queen…and Queen, of course sang that they were having fun at the “YMCA”.

We’re just dressed up in different costumes than Queen, although many of us have shaved legs/bodies

Looks like you’re gonna have to stick to A, because what you read of me is pretty much what I am.

Also getting along doesn’t mean agreeing on everything. Some of the posts about Lance were supposed to be shocking, since like Brian286 has said, there’s way too much hero worshiping going on, just read above for an example.

Don’t get me wrong…I understand that getting along and agreeing with each other are mutually exlusive…I just find you have a tendency to display a sort of superiority complex in your posts. And I think you could do a lot more to get people to respect your opinion if you were less of a dick about it. As the old saying goes…people don’t care how much you know nearly as much as they know how you care. Being the foremost authority means nothing if you’re right and people still think you’re a braggard. As I said…I respect that you know as much as you do but trying to convey it in a more polite manner would do wonders.

Obviously you are trying to live up to the smartass part of you identity but how did it come about and why are you trying so hard to keep it up?

How do I say this without sounding superior… You wrote “getting along and agreeing with each other are mutually exlusive”… you either don’t know what mutually exclusive is, or have a weird definition of “getting along” and/or "agreeing with each other "…
