Why are USAT AG Nationals in such a crummy location?

USAT decides where the nationals are held every year, and like you I’m so glad that I decided to not go this year. You can read the other thread I started on the UST bust for tha latest up date on the weather…Every year the largest contingent of racers comes from California, it would just make sense to put the race on the west coast, and you are right, the weather is almost always great here…It may be that it is just too logical for the USAT committee to grasp…

For other sports federations it comes down to a couple of other issues - fairness to athletes so they try to spread nationals to different areas of the country so it’s somewhat local to you every few years, and finding promoters willing to run such an event on an appropriate venue.

Yea, so let’s have it on the west coast so the mud slides, forest fires or earthquakes can get you…Christ it’s like the Old Testament out there!

Don’t like a tough race? Maybe they can be held indoors at the mall next year.

I don’t mind a tough race, but it appears that there is NO race this year. Looks like it was just cancelled. Now lets see if USAT does the right thing…Refund entries, or transfer to latter race, compensate race director for his $30000 race fee, and what about our qualifyiers for this years worlds…Who’s gonna get the slots. I wonder if they(USAT) get it now what we’ve been talking about all these years. Pick a great site that everyone wants to go to, and stick to it…

So if license fees go up next year…

I take it from your smiley face that you are joking. Everyweekend out here this summer has yeilded many great races, and many more to come. Oh ya, you forgot all the gang shootings…(-:

/So if license fees go up next year./

That’s ok with me, only after they have spent some of the millions they have saved from us over these past years. These are the kind of things that this huge nest egg is for, don’t you think???

Money put away for a rainy day?

Saved? No, it’s in the personal coffers of a few people. You think they’re going to give it back?

No, any expenses are going to be on the backs of the plebians.

And y’all will be right back in line giving them money next year…

Brett

/And y’all will be right back in line giving them money next year…/

As long as thy have the monopoly on us doing most races in this country, then we will be giving them our money. But the past events of WTC and their break may soon yeild some competition for USAT. It will be interesting how it pans out next year. I really hope we can fix the broken machine, would be a shame to start over and build a whole new one…

Just for the record. . . it has been 90s and sunny for the past 3 weeks and basically months. We are in a drought and haven’t had much in weather activity for a while. I am not disputing location as far as number of participants but the weather here in the summer is nice for training and racing. . . if anything it gets too hot and humid sometimes. Plus things are cheap here, for travel and hotels and food. . .lot less than California.

Thank you! Oh… I forgot the serial killers as well.

And you really believe all the BS the media feeds you?

Dave
And you have to stop believing all the BS “folks” feed you. Get out of your comfort zone every now and then.

Larry, when I got my invite, I thought it was because I “earned” it. But, when I then found out you could “buy” you way in, I stayed home.

Now, I still would like to “qualify” for the half AG championship. I think you have to “earn” spots to this race? I also am going to try and qualify

for Boston. I will never win, but, nationals with folks who can not even win their local Tri events.

Dave
Better watch it Dave. Boston in April…weather could be a little unpredictable! LOL

Monty, I am not disputing that most of the racers come from California but, according to USAT demographics, there are three times the number of annual members on the east coast and if you include the south and Texas, four times.

Bob Sigerson

I dunno how many times I need to say “Santa Cruz”. There are some issues…who cares…make it happen and you’ll have a “nats” worth the name.

So if there are so many athletes east of the rockies, where are they come nationals??? If Californains are the only ones willing to shell it out, suck it up, and go to nationals, even when it has been held predominately in the middle and east, then it ought to be where it is more conveinent for them, puting aside the better race locations we have out here…
